  Prey - The Computer Game
Prey puts you in the shoes of Tommy, a garage mechanic and former soldier, who along with Jen, his girlfriend, and his grandfather are abducted by aliens.
The alien sphere/spaceship on which you play most of the game is a mix of fleshy organic material and metal, as are the weapons and enemies that you encounter.
I could go on about the game play and whatnot but I want to highlight one thing about the game that I found most interesting and that is the physical aspects of some of the areas, specifically their physics.

Diablo (computer game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In this hack and slash game, the central goal is to slay the many demons summoned by Diablo, the Lord of Terror, in a sixteen-level "labyrinth" underneath the small town of Tristram, and ultimately confront Diablo himself.
The use of trainers (which modify memory locations while the game is running in order to cheat) is fairly common and character editors are often used to give incredible statistics to even newly-created characters.
Some enemies don't appear in the final game, such as the Unraveler (which is now a monster found in Act 2 of Diablo II), Goat Lord, Incinerator, Bone Demon, Invisible Lord, The Arch Lich Malignus, and Devil Kin Brute.

Computer scientists Andrew Anderson and Dr Peter McOwan of the Queen Mary University of London report their findings in a recent report in the journal Biology Letters.
In the game, the player (the prey) moved in a straight line down the centre of a virtual tunnel, floating in which were stationary missile-launchers (the fixed point).
The effectiveness of each strategy was measured by the distance from the prey at which the missiles exploded, by being shot or hitting the prey.

Computer games are a $260 million a year business, according to the Software Publishers Association.
Such games are a small percentage of their overall product line, Transeth says, but he is unsure of the exact number.
Game makers point to television as a more pervasive source of explicit violence; so, for that matter, are the "other guy's games." All of which begs the real question of what standards, if any, should game makers follow, and how can they be inspired in the face of countervailing market pressures?

 BBC - h2g2 - Prey - the Computer Game
The game is dedicated to William Scarboro, who helped develop the game's portal technology early on in the game's life, but died of an asthma attack in 2002 and never saw the game released.
Though the game includes so many different ideas that they would seem confusing if presented all at once, they are delivered one by one with careful timing so that the game always has something new to show the player.
One of the more interesting features in Prey is the alien portal technology, which allows the player to pass straight through a rip in the fabric of space, taking them from one area to another.

The genre can use people who are familiar not only with what's going on in our tiny sub-section of computer games, but also with what is happening to literature.
As you grow in experience, it becomes harder and harder to just "enjoy a game." Bad games seem ten times worse than they are; reasonably good games become disappoinments.
It's not enough to say that a game was good "for an adventure game." We need to be willing to subject works of IF to the harsher standards of literature in general.
