Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Catharines
Bishop Thomas Fulton, then bishop of St. Catharines in 1985, gave his approval and blessing to the new apostolate and community.
This Fraternity had been brought into existence by Pope John Paul II in 1988 with the issuance of the same 'motu proprio Ecclesia Dei adflicta' under the auspices of the Ecclesia Dei commission in Rome.
St. Patrick's community extended their hospitality and graciously shared all their parish facilities with the budding new community for four years.

 Amidah II
Clearly, the "Sprout of David," in the Amidah, is neither a priestly messiah, a prophetic messiah, nor a heavenly messiah.
Blessing 10 seeks the return of the dispersed, blessing 11 the restoration of leadership models of yore, blessing 14 the return of God to Jerusalem, and blessing 15 the restoration of the Davidic line (as blessing 17 seeks the restoration of the cult to the Temple and the return of the divine presence to Zion).
The minimizing of the Davidic role in the Amidah is reminiscent of the minimizing of the Mosaic role in the Passover Haggadah.

 Naso - Jacob Spiegel
According to the Tosafists, since the manifestation is reduced, one might have been permitted to look at the priests, nevertheless one is forbidden to do so for fear that it cause the person who looks at them to take his mind off the priestly blessing.
Both Rashi and the Tosafists admit that during the priestly blessing there is always some manifestation of the Divine Presence.
While the Tosafists do agree that even in this case one may not look at the priests, they explain it differently: if a person looks at the priests, it distracts his attention from the blessing.

That is why the commentary on Genesis 25,32: “Who will give me my right of firstborn?”, says as follows: “The right of the firstborn was the priestly vestment, for the firstborn was vested in it with the blessing of his father and he offered to God the victims, as a high priest.
Text: ‘The second privilege of the first born was the splendidly decorated priestly vestment; for in early times when there was not yet a priest for the whole community, everyone had in his house a specific priest chosen from among the children: it was the first born, and one gave him a priestly vestment.
Nothing applies more to Mary, for no one should be ignorant in which way Mary, fulfilling a priestly function when standing upright before the altar of the cross, offered for us to God the Father a living victim who was no one else than her son.

 Tabory: Second Temple Non-Temple Liturgy
In Second Temple times we find the priestly blessing used both in the context of the daily sacrifice, as noted above, and in two instances of non-sacrificial context: the ma'amadot and the reading of the sh'ma conducted outside the area of sacrifice (in the Chamber of the Hewn Stones; Mishnah Tamid 5:1).
Other Torah readings found in the Second Temple period, the reading of the Day of Atonement ritual by the High Priest on the Day of Atonement and the reading of selections from Deuteronomy by the king during the hakhel ceremony, were followed by blessings.
In the Temple it was recited as "one blessing" while outside the Temple it was recited as "three blessings" (Tamid 7:2).

 Dvar Torah on the Kedusha
The Kedusha is the only part of the Amidah (apart from the priestly blessing) that we recite only during the public repetition of the Amidah, omitting it when we pray the Amidah silently.
When we pray the Amidah silently, we still address the issue of God's holiness, but we substitute a single sentence in place of the full Kedusha, before concluding with the Kedusha blessing: "You are holy, and Your Name is holy, and they are holy who praise You daily.
The blessing itself, which appears at the very end of the Kedusha, is: "Blessed are You, O Lord, the Holy God." The rest of the Kedusha is an elaboration on this theme.

ROCHESTER -- One by one, more than 60 priests laid their hands upon Father John Loncle, bestowing silent prayer and blessing.
This repeated act was a touching reminder that a priestly ordination carries special meaning not only for the newly ordained, but also for their brethren, as those priests reflect on their own lives of priestly service...
That was the premise for the Diocese of Rochester's first-ever "Gathering of the Ministerium" on May 26.

Unless a woman's pedigree was known to be unimpeachable, a Kohen, before marrying her, was required to examine it for four generations on both sides, in case she was of priestly lineage; for five generations if she was not of priestly descent.
The gesture that a Kohen gives when blessing a congregation was Leonard Nimoy's inspiration for the Vulcan salute.
A Kohen (or Cohen, Hebrew "priest", pl. Kohanim or Cohanim) is a direct male descendant of the Biblical Aaron, brother of Moses, and has a distinct personal status within Judaism.

The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) is sometimes confused with the SSPX, but is in fact of completely different character, having been established with the blessing of Pope John Paul II on 18 October 1988 by priests who disagreed with Archbishop Lefebvre's action of 30 June of that year.
A small subset of sedevacantist groups, often called "conclavists", have elected popes of their own.
