The Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore is the head of government of the Republic of Singapore (and prior to 9 August 1965, the State of Singapore).
Lee Kuan Yew was prime minister from 1959 to 1990 and retired on 26 November 1990.
Goh was appointed the senior minister, and the elder Lee, the Minister Mentor.

Contrary to popular and journalistic belief, most prime ministers in parliamentary systems are not appointed for a specific term of office and in effect may remain in power through a number of elections and parliaments.

"Singapore had a multi-pronged approach to combating the scourge of drug addiction and one component of our approach was the mandatory death penalty for drug traffickers, who were in fact the source of the drugs that ruined the lives of addicts", reported AP.
