Prime Suspect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Prime Suspect is a highly-acclaimed Granada Television police procedural television drama series of the decades of the 1990s and 2000s, which has been followed up by several sequels.
Prime Suspect's format amounts to a series of miniseries: each case runs for several nights of two hours.
Prime Suspect 6 broadcasts began in the United States on April 18, 2004, and Mirren has said she expects to make the seventh her last.

 Primne Suspect
By installing a woman as the head of a murder squad, Prime Suspect broke new ground in terms of both gender and the authenticity in the portrayal of the internal dynamics of the police as an organisation.
With Prime Suspect and the creation of DCI Jane Tennison, La Plante continued to elaborate her predilection for problematic heroines, but this time, her central character is not a criminal but a woman both shaped and defined by her role as an officer of the law.
In Tennison's pursuit of serial killer George Marlowe in Prime Suspect I, for example, not only must she prove she is an exceptional detective and win the support of her male colleagues, but the narrative is shot through with her compulsive need to succeed in her job at any cost.

Finch suspects a link to the Balkan mafia, but Jane's hunch takes her even further; in the course of the investigation, she will travel to Bosnia to investigate a 1992 war crime that may be connected with this London killing.
Prime Suspect's great innovation has always been that it shows Tennison doing something a woman on television is rarely allowed to do with such skill and gusto: her job.
In Prime Suspect 1, Jane was genuinely shocked by a fellow officer's unethical tampering with a murder victim's address book; now, she's illegally taping conversations and using them to browbeat prisoners into naming their accomplices.

I did the same with "Prime Suspect 6." The critics who are too kind to this series on account of Queen Helen Mirren needn't bother with their paeans.
Maybe Denzel Washington is too, but that doesn't mean we have to praise "John Q." As for "Prime Suspect 6," it would seem that PBS has now gone all the way and started putting exploitation flicks on their channel.
Not that this is a new thing with "Prime Suspect," which in the past has looked at racism, corruption, etc.

There’s just something about true stories put to film that really excites me! Prime Suspect is the story of Detective Superintendent Jane Tennison and her trials in becoming the first female DCI (Detective Chief Inspector) in the London police force.
In their haste to beat “paxman’s” record in closing a case they provide the suspect with information regarding the victim thus tainting their investigation and resulting in the release of the Prime Suspect.

Indeed, in a medium increasingly obsessed with callow youth, Prime Suspect revels in the depth and hard-won maturity of its main character, a real and sometimes weary woman in a sea of plastic little girls.
(Prime Suspect sticks to the theory that actors should be chosen for talent and not because they're attractive or because they might attract a younger audience.) Everything about it feels real and right, from the not-so-hidden tensions at the station to the suspicious glares that follow the cops down dirty hallways.

This last entry in the “Prime Suspect” series had me a bit worried since the first hour or so felt like the producers were making the show just to cash in on the name and actress, not because the story was that good.
