The band was formed during the summer 1996.
In Thy Primordial we try to be as uninfluenced as possible, maybe something comes in which we do not even think about from the Norway scene which all members in the band like best.
In the case of Thy Primordial I think it has something to do with that we are not in the same genre as the other swedish fl metal bands.

Primordial are a folk metal band formed in 1987 in Skerries, Ireland, by Pól MacAmlaigh (bass) and Ciáran MacUiliam (guitars).
Although their debut album, Imrama, was characteristic as being in a more melodic fl metal musical direction, they gradually came to refine their sound with A Journey's End, which included the use of mandolins and whistles and a more epic style.
In January 2006 the band played their first US show along side Thyrfing and Moonsorrow at the Heathen Crusade metalfest in Columbia Heights MN.

To promote the band they entered the studio and recorded 4 new songs for them which was further released as a 7" EP in August 1996 by Paranoia Syndrome.
So in early 2003 Thy Primordial took the hard decision to walk separate ways with Isidor due to a lack of interest etc. A permanent replacement was found at the same time and Nicke Holstenson (former vocalist of Swedish deathsters Nominon) was put to place in the line-up.

With various singers coming and going, Paul attempted to sing…or rather belch for most of this year and sometime in 88 the band as a three piece recorded a 4 trk demo with a cover of Death "Born Dead" and Sepultura "Screams Behind The Shadows" and one or two original tracks.
What the band were called at this stage and even before is shrouded in mystery and a clandestine occult haze.
For Primordial completists if such people exist I guess this is truly the rarest thing there is. It was the first compilation of it's kind in Ireland and in retrospect one of the most important turning points.

Unlike the band's earlier material, which was full of great ideas but sometimes lacked a bit in both production and even execution, this EP finds the band in fine form.
Ireland is not exactly known as a hotbed for extreme metal of any form, but a little band called Primordial has done a bit to put their country on the metal map.
For those familiar with the band, the new CD isn't chock full of new surprises, but Primordial is the sort of band that can get away with working within the confines of their sound, as it's a good sound overall.

The latest Primordial release is a collection of older demo and rare songs, plus miscellaneous live tracks all packed into one package.
The band's mix of fl metal and doom in the old days or its more recent theatric stance has hardly grabbed attentions anywhere.
That is due partly the band's threadbare music which is both rudimentary and inconsequential and partly due to the band's use of gimmickry in lieu of actual riffs, hooks, leads or whatever, anything, a band would use to garner fans.

Get Ready to ROCK! Review of CD album by Irish metal rock band Primordial called The Gathering Wildnerness
The story of the Irish Metal outfit Primordial is similar to that of their troubled nation: an uneven battle with 'outside factors' which had the power to decide the band’s future, and led them to an everyday struggle for survival.
The reason why I make this special reference to the band’s frontman, is because I strongly believe that it was his presence in the line up that brought a breath of fresh air to the band, and gave Primordial’s music this unique colour and character that is still present today, after almost fourteen years.
The band’s Achilles’ heel has always been the production quality of their albums, something that no longer seems to be the case.
