The primrose is associated with the name of Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, as being preferred by him to other flowers.
The motto was Imperium et libertas; the seal, three primroses; and the badge, a monogram containing the letters PL, surrounded by primroses.
The founder of the Ladies Grand Council was Lady Borthwick (afterwards Lady Glenesk), and the first meeting of the committee took place at her house in Piccadilly in March 1885.

Upon the death of British Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli (Lord Beaconsfield), on 19 April 1881, Primrose Day was instituted in his honor, as the English primrose was his favorite flower.
Two years later, a bronze statue of Disraeli, Lord Beaconsfield was erected at Parliament Square, and it became customary to decorate it with primroses every year on the anniversary of his death.
Often at Easter the woodlands of England are seen carpeted with wild primroses.

It was re-opened, again as Chalk Farm, on 10th July 1922 and received its final name, Primrose Hill, on 25th September 1950.
The last trains on this service ran on 28 September 1992 which was also the last day of Primrose Hill but, because the station was flooded, the last train was diverted via Hampstead Heath.
Today the station is overgrown but still repairable, so there is indeed a chance of reopening it to operate through services from Watford onto the North London line, but I very much doubt that the service from Liverpool Street will ever be reinstated.
