Other princes derive their title not from their heraditory or dynastic position as such, but from their claim to a unique and personal title of formal princely rank, one named after a specific and historical principality, but not connected to any practical claim as sovereign of a state, even if they belong to one.
A prince or princess who is the head of state of a territory that has a monarchy as a form of government is a reigning prince.
In ancient China, the title of prince developed from being the highest title of nobility (synonymous with duke) in the Zhou Dynasty, to five grades of princes (not counting the sons and grandsons of the emperor) by the time of the fall of the Qing Dynasty.

Prince Rogers Nelson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota at Mount Sinai Hospital on June 7, 1958 to John L. Nelson and Mattie Shaw.
Prince was actually booed off the stage that night, and it is rumored that a clip of the show was later used by Prince for his “Pop Life” single in 1985 (if you listen, you can actually hear one member of the audience yell, “Throw the bum out!”) This rumor is untrue.
Prince often uses pseudonyms and monikers to separate himself from the music (either his own or that of others) he has had input in; he has said that he was tired of seeing his name everywhere, and that only egotistical people take credit for everything they do.

By any other name, the man born Prince Rogers Nelson is a consummate musician, one of the best singers, guitarists and bassists in music today.
It's stripped-down funk, and fun to listen to, but it's easy to see why Prince didn't want to release it with his name on it: mostly party songs, recorded quickly, more characteristic of a Time album than of the intelligence and emotional range usually found on a Prince album.
