Claus, who charmed his adopted country with an irreverent wit and was credited with helping mend wartime wounds between his native Germany and The Netherlands, died of pneumonia and Parkinson's disease on October 6 at the age of 76.
Claus, an aristocrat and former West German diplomat, first met then-Crown Princess Beatrix on the ski slopes of Switzerland and the pair married in Amsterdam in 1966.
