Prince Edward Island (PEI; French, l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is a Canadian province situated in the Maritimes.
The province comprises the island of the same name located in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, northeast of New Brunswick and north of Nova Scotia from which it is separated by the Northumberland Strait.
The island has several nicknames: "Garden of the Gulf" referring to the pastoral scenery and lush agricultural lands throughout the province; "Million Acre Farm" also refers to the province being dominated by agriculture; and finally "Birthplace of Confederation", referring to the Charlottetown Conference in 1864.

His Royal Highness The Prince Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent and Strathearn (2 November 1767 – 23 January 1820) was the fourth son of King George III and the father of Queen Victoria.
In September 1864, Prince Edward Island hosted the Charlottetown Conference, which was the first meeting in the process leading to the Articles of Confederation and the creation of Canada in 1867.

 William Lyon Mackenzie King - Canadian History
In 1919 he was selected as successor to Sir Wilfrid Laurier in the leadership of the Liberal party; later in the same year he was elected to represent Prince county, Prince Edward Island, in the Canadian House of Commons; and from 1919 to 1921 he was leader of the Liberal opposition in the Commons.
In 1921, on the defeat of the Meighen administration, he was called upon to form a government; and from 1921 to 1926, with a very slender majority behind him, he carried on the government of Canada as prime minister, representing North York in the Commons.
Defeated in the House in 1926, he was compelled to resign; but after the general elections of 1926 he resumed office as prime minister, and he remained at the head of the government, representing Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, until his government was defeated in the general election of 1930.
