The PEI Progressive Conservative Party is one of two major political parties on Prince Edward Island.
The original PEI Conservative Party opposed responsible government, and supported the elites who owned large landed estates on the island, while the Liberals were more sympathetic to tenant farmers.
The Progressive Conservatives currently form the government in Prince Edward Island under Premier Pat Binns, who intends to seek a fourth term in office.

 Progressive Conservative Party of Canada
The party suffered a decade-long decline following the 1993 federal election, and was formally dissolved on December 8, 2003, when it merged with the Canadian Alliance to form the new Conservative Party.
Even though the Quebec Conservative Party dominated politics in that province for the first thirty years of Confederation at both the federal and provincial levels, in the 20th century the party was never able to be a force in provincial politics, and ultimately dissolved into the Union Nationale in 1935.
As was common amongst 19th century conservative movements, Canadian Tories opposed the rollback of government intervention in social and economic matters advocated by the liberals of the era.

Binns is "from away" an Island term defining someone who was not born on P.E.I. Patrick George Binns was born in Saskatchewan on Oct. 8, 1948, to Stanley Ernest Binns and Phyllis Mae Evans.
Binns moved to Prince Edward Island in 1972 and spent two years working for the Rural Development Council of P.E.I. During the next four years he worked for the provincial government, establishing regional service centres in the eastern end of the Island.
