His eldest son, Oscar Gustaf Adolf, duke of Värmland, succeeded him as King Gustaf V of Sweden.
As King of Norway, he was after the events of 1905 succeeded by his great-nephew Prince Carl of Denmark, grandson of his late elder brother King Charles, who ascended the Norwegian throne in 1905 with reign name Haakon VII.
Harald V of Norway, the great-grandson of Oscar II (grandson of his third son duke of Västergötland), succeeded in 1991 to the throne of Norway once held by his great-grandfather, Oscar himself.

Baron Fredrik Wilhelm von Otter (11 April 1833–9 March 1910), Swedish naval officer and politician, Prime Minister of Sweden 1900-1902.
Otter was born on the Fimmersta estate in Westrogothia and belonged to a wealthy and aristocratic family.
He was promoted to commander in 1872 and made aide-de-camp of the Crown Prince Oscar, Duke of Ostrogothia the same year and remaining so after his accession to the throne as Oscar II in 1873.
