Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie, President of the Crown Council of Ethiopia (L) and H. King Kigeri V of Rwanda (R) Prince Ermias Sahle Selassie, b.1960, is the only son of Prince Sahle Selassie of Ethiopia and Princess Mahisente Habte Mariam.
Prince Ermias was married to Gelila Fiseha, the daughter of a former Ethiopian Supreme Court Justice, and is the father of twin sons, Prince Sahle Selassie Ermias (known as Christian), and Prince Fisseha Tsion (known as Rufael).

Since his older brothers, Their Imperial Highnesses Prince Asfa Wossen and Prince Makonnen, had both been born before the 1930 coronation, Prince Sahle Selassie was also the first legitimate child born to a reigning Emperor since the birth of Dejazmach Alemayehu Tewodros, son of Emperor Tewodros II.
Prince Sahle Selassie was married to Princess Mahisente Habte Mariam, the daughter of Dejazmach Hapte Mariam Gebre Igziabiher, the heir to the old Oromo kingdom of Leqa Naqamte in Welega Province, and later served as governor of Welega province.
The Prince was a man of an artistic bent, who is said to have made a movie which was banned from publication by the Imperial Government censor despite the fact the Prince was a member of the Imperial family.

When his father Wossen Seged was murdered, Sahle Selassie's older brother Bakure was kept from marching to their father's capital at Qundi to claim the succession by Oromo rebels in Marra Biete.
Then the one of Sahle Selassie's generals, Medoko, rebelled and convinced a number of the elite Shewan matchlockmen to desert with him to join the Oromos.
Sahle Selassie responded to the famine by opening the royal storehouses to the needy, endearing himself to his people.

Prince Ermias said he had leaned from his uncle, Emperor Haile-Selassie, how to develop Ethiopia and how to spread the tentacles of social service throughout the country.

The prince will be travelling to the island at the invitation of Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professionals' arm of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
This, they said, was in commemoration of the visit of his grandfather in 1966, this month.
