His Royal Highness Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, Carl Philip Edmund Bertil (born May 13, 1979), Duke of Värmland, is the second child and only son of Carl XVI Gustaf and Silvia of Sweden.
Born Crown Prince of Sweden, he was stripped of this title on January 1, 1980, due to a change in the Act of Succession to introduce equal primogeniture.
In 2004 when the Prince turned 25, he was honoured with a congratulatory call on the Court Yard of the Royal Palace of Stockholm, and gave a rare television interview in which he open heartedly told the people about himself and his life.

In 1934 he married Erica Patzek, a commoner, and due not having acquired consent for the marriage from the monarch he lost his princely title and was excluded from the line of succession.
In 1983, Sigvard went to the European Court of Human Rights in an effort to restore his princely title.
He was successful in doing so, but King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden never obliged, nor inclined to accept such a decision.

Count Sigvard Bernadotte, a seminal figure in Scandinavian design in the twentieth century, died recently in Stockholm at the age of 95.
Marrying in 1934 against his family’s wishes, Sigvard lost his princely title and instead was given the title of Count of Wisborg.
Sigvard was buried on 15 February in the private cemetery of the Swedish royal family at Haga on the outskirts of Stockholm.
