Prince Zeid was appointed as Jordan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in August 2000.
Prior to his appointment as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Prince Zeid served as Jordan's Deputy Permanent Representative from 1996 to 2000.

Zeid was born on February 28, 1898 at Stinia Palace, in Turkey, to King Hussein bin Ali and Queen Adila Khanum.
From 1916–19, Prince Zeid was the Commander of the Arab Northern Army, and in 1923 was assigned to the Iraqi Cavalry and promoted to Colonel.
Prince Zeid died in Paris on October 18, 1970 and is buried in the Royal Mausoleum at Raghdan Palace, Amman, Jordan.

Prince Zeid was elected the first president of the Assembly of State Parties to the Rome Statute of the ICC — a post he will hold for a three-year term.
The Prince is presently chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Scope of Legal Protection under the Convention of the Safety of UN and Associate Personnel, as well as being coordinator for the Non-Aligned Movement on peacekeeping.
