Princes Bridge was a Melbourne railway station built in 1859 and was the terminus for all Epping line trains.
The station was named after the adjacent Princes Bridge, which crosses the Yarra River.
The original Princes Bridge station buildings were demolished in 1964 and replaced with the Princes Gate Towers, also known as the Gas and Fuel Corporation towers.

Percy A. Grainger was born on July 8, 1882 in Brighton, Victoria.
The fifth movement, “Lord Melbourne (War Song),” is a fanfare written for the nobility of the 1st Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill.
"Lord Melbourne" is actually a variant of the tune, "The Duke of Marlborough." This piece is marked "free time" to allow each conductor the chance to portray his/her own interpretation of the piece, as a folk song would generally be interpreted many different ways by the various people who sing it.

He was dux of Scotch College and studied arts and engineering at Melbourne University, where he was also involved in debating and student politics.
He worked on the construction of the Princes Bridge in Melbourne and in 1888 was placed in charge of constructing a new railway even though he had yet to complete his degree.
Monash died of heart disease in Melbourne on 8 October 1931 and was given a state funeral attended by some 250,000 mourners.

The City of Melbourne was decorated with arches and banners and at night many buildings, including Flinders Street Station were lit with thousands of decorative lights.
Princes Bridge was also decorated with a colonnade and triumphal arch, designed by Desbrowe Annear, under which, the Cyclopedia of Victoria, 1903 notes ' the Mayor and the Corporation officially welcomed the royal couple and offered them the freedom of the city'.
The arch was described in The Argus, 7 May 1901, as decorated with symbolic trophies showing 'the Commonwealth, here typified by the galley named 'Austral', propelled by the labelled oars of the six federated states and won for the people today.

Back in the 1880's, Melbourne was searching for a site for a general cemetery.
The line was electrified in 1922, and closed in 1951 when Sandown Racecourse was extended, after having the electrification removed a few months earlier, although the last train ran in 1947.
