  Smoke causing havoc on Victorian highway : thewest.com.au
The fire in the Boulder Creek area, north of the Princes Highway between Orbost and Cann River, is now about 500 hectares in size.
Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) state duty officer John Lloyd said the fire was creating smoke that would affect the Princes Highway in that area and asked motorists to slow down and take extra care in that region.
Mr Lloyd said while the fire was about three kilometres away from the highway, the risk was not high that it would cut across it.

Existing roads were re-named ‘Princes Highway’ after the visit to Australia in 1920 of the Prince of Wales (who became King Edward VIII, thence the late Duke of Windsor).
The highway was officially opened on August 10 1920 at Warragul, Victoria.
However, the Monash Freeway stems from the Princes Freeway in the eastern outskirts of Melbourne and the West Gate Freeway from the Princes Freeway in the western outskirts, and these have been linked together by the southern link of the CityLink tollway.

The highway commences in Dandenong, branching from the Princes Highway, and heads in a general south-east direction, passing through the towns of Cranbourne, Tooradin, Koo Wee Rup, Nyora, Korumburra, Leongatha, Foster, Welshpool and Yarram, before heading north to rejoin the Princes Highway at Sale.
The highway is designated state route 420 until the Bass Highway turnoff, then becomes route 440.

An audit of the Princes Highway has found that the quality of the road has improved but the road's safety record has deteriorated at the same time - with crash rates up 17 per cent since 1997.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Alex Darling, said today he has been encouraged by the response of the Federal Minister for Territories, Local Government and Roads, Senator Ian Campbell, to petitions about the state of the Princes Highway.
“While the Highway remains a state-funded road, the issue has become so critical that we felt we needed to involve the Federal Roads Minister in trying to find a funding solution,” Cr Darling said.
Councillor Darling said only yesterday the Highway experienced another fatality, resulting in the road closed for more than six hours.

The Stuart Highway (87) Section 1: leaves Adelaide and heads north between the Flinders Ranges and Gulf St. Vincent and Spencer Gulf, through Port Pirie to Port Augusta where it joins the Eyre Highway to Perth (1).
From Adelaide to Port Augusta it is common to the Stuart Highway and from there heads west through Kimba, Kyancutta and Ceduna, to Cross the border into Western Australia.
