Princess Anne County existed between 1691 and 1963, when the county was merged into the city of Virginia Beach.
Princess Anne married Prince George of Denmark in 1683.
Queen Anne knew that the next English ruler would be from the German descendants of James I. The Catholic side of the family did put up a fight, but did not succeed.

 VBCPS - Historical Overview
Princess Anne County becomes one of only a dozen localities in all of Virginia to establish a public school system prior to the Civil War.
Dey was a member of the Princess Anne Board of Supervisors, the Norfolk City Council (during a period of residence in that city) and the State House of Delegates.
Early in 1961 Princess Anne County purchased half of the 12.7 acres that comprise Luxford's physical plant, with William Oliver donating the other half, and construction of a new school began to ease the overcrowdedness.

Elzy Burroughs was born in 1771 (or 1777) probably in Stafford County, Virginia and had moved to Middlesex or Essex County, VA before 1798.
He was the official keeper of that light until he resigned in 1814, though he had moved to Princess Anne County in 1810, and a son, also named Elzy, was born in Princess Anne County in 1805.
He moved to the Norfolk/Princess Anne County, Virginia area as a widower with a large family in 1810.

Union Kempsville was first established as the Princess Anne County Training School in 1938 by a group of fl parents who wanted to give their children an education that was denied to African Americans by white county officials, including the School Board.
After Virginia Beach City Public Schools integrated in the late 1970s, Union Kempsville High School’s students were sent to predominately white schools in the city.

I wasn't here at the time and when I think about a POW camp in old Princess Anne County, I can't get over what an odd contrast it must have been to the peaceful bucolic nature of the surrounding area.
Yet it was those very prisoners, who probably helped to preserve the rural character of the county by working as farm hands to replace local young men who had gone off to war.
At the time, Virginia Beach was still a tiny resort city, surrounded by rural Princess Anne County.
