Princess Marina was born in Athens, Greece on December 13, 1906.

She was baptised near the end of 1906 and her godparents were: King George, Edward VII of the United Kingdom, Prince Andrew of Greece, Grand Duke Boris Vladimirovitch of Russia, The Princess of Wales and The Grand Duchess Cyril Vladimirovich.

Marina Victoria Alexandra was born on July 31 1966 and christened in the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace.
Marina Ogilvy later publicly rebelled against her background, announcing to a blaze of publicity that she was expecting a baby by her boyfriend Paul Mowatt, a photographer, and that she did not intend to marry him.
But although Ogilvy and Princess Alexandra were at pains to present a united front with their daughter when the wedding went ahead before the birth of a baby girl in February 1990, the newlyweds sold exclusive coverage of the ceremony to Rupert Murdoch's newspaper Today.

Princess Alice also apparently did not wish to be known as a dowager duchess and so followed the example of her late sister-in-law, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, following the marriage of her elder son in June 1961.
Princess Alice died October 29, 2004 in her sleep at Kensington Palace at the age of 102.

An unattributed cutting reveals that the Duke and Duchess of Kent were in Austria, presumably just before the war, Prince George wished to visit his brother, the exiled Duke of Windsor and his wife, at their home at Wasserleonburg.
Lord [Kenneth] Clark is quoted as saying that Marina was the most elegant example of classical beauty he had known: "she could have sat for Praxiteles, although she was not a particularly animated beauty".
Scattered through the book are newspaper cuttings of photographs of Princess Marina and of her daughter Alexandra, who, particularly from certain angles, look remarkably alike.
