 Super Princess Peach - GameCritics.com
Striking out on her own, Mario's squeeze Peach stars in an adventure that's a pale imitation of what one might expect from a 2D platformer riding the coattails of one of the greatest videogame legacies of all time.
Peach can certainly run, jump, and bop enemies the way you'd expect, but there are two main additions to the standard Mario formula.
The first is that Peach must find three captive Toad mushroom-men in each area, taking the focus away from simply navigating each level skillfully and instead making it important to search everywhere thoroughly.

Instead, Peach uses a trusty umbrella to attack everything in her way, as well as four different "vibe" powers that are activated by touching large buttons on the bottom of the screen.
Peach is like that moderately-attractive girl that is appealing once you get to know her, but doesn't look like anything special at first glance.

But for those that thought that Peach would earn a spot next to Samus in the history of female videogame characters that champion equality and defy stereotypes, I have news for you: the joke is on you.
The DS’s features are really just an afterthought, using the touchscreen to send Peach into one of her moodswings, or for one of a small assortment of minigames, and it’s quite possible that the game could have been done on the GBA with the only omissions being the extra collectible stuff.
Peach has a lot of health (and can use coins collected to buy even more), and the fact that the game structure is so forgiving takes the “error” out of the trial and error process.

Luckily, Princess Peach was out for a stroll when Bowser made his offensive, leaving her and her incredibly versatile talking umbrella, Perry, to venture to Vibe Island and save the day.
Super Princess Peach is still a fun platformer with a fair amount of cutesy charm, one that takes great steps to differentiate itself from the series it's derived from.
The competence with which Super Princess Peach is made makes it a wonderful introduction to 2D platformers for the young, the casual, or the uninitiated, but experienced platform players won't find enough challenge to sink their teeth into.

As it turns out, while the Japanese cover captures Princess Peach in the middle of a full-on episode of hysteria, the American box art is a lot less misogynistic, doing its damnedest to portray Peach as a bubblegum pink, Sigourney-Weaver-type heroine.
Instead of outfitting the princess in some sort of clothes that would make it possible for her to, I don't know, walk five steps without falling on her face, they have her wearing a full ball gown and tiara.

Femme Fatale: Princess Peach | Killer Betties
For her first foray into the videogame world, Princess Peach developed a bit of a personality disorder, as she was known as one of two different names depending on what side of the world you were on.
From her conception, Princess Peach was always designed to be a blonde woman, but because of the graphical limitations of the original NES, blonde/yellow just wasn't a color they could do all that well at the beginning.
Princess Peach is one of the most accurate representations of women in general, and she manages to do it all without us ever really knowing what in her past made her so, but perhaps that is the reason we love her so…the mystery.

Super Princess Peach - Nintendo DS Review
The premise of Super Princess Peach is actually pretty flimsy and not even all that important to the gameplay; while Peach was out for a walk, Bowser's troops, armed with the Vibe Scepter (a mood-control device), stormed the castle and captured Mario, Luigi, and 126 Toads.
Peach returns to find the castle in pandemonium, while a mishap at his own castle wreaks havoc on Bowser's army as his minions become giddy, sleepy, despondent, or enraged.
Joy allows Peach to create whirlwinds and fly; Gloom causes her to erupt in a river of tears; Rage makes her a blazing, stomping mess of PMS (Perturbed Monarch Syndrome, and you knew I was going to throw that joke in there somewhere); and Calm does nothing except slowly refill her life meter.

Coin Heaven: Princess Peach — Feminist?
From the way the line is spoken, it hard to say whether Peach is just shocked at the revelation of the plan or if she honestly thinks she could be the mother of Bowser's son.
However, I honestly hoped that Peach would have been an alternative to Mario, Luigi, Wario and Yoshi —; at least by the point she was rescued and remaining stars were left to be found.
But if Nintendo does decide to put the princess in the spotlight again, we can hope they'll know not to make her any more girly than she already is making her emotions fluctuate in the kind of violent manner that usually necessitates medication.

Limited amounts of platforms mean that Peach never has to delicately teeter on the edge of a chasm — which is something that pushed your adrenaline levels through the roof in any of the Mario titles — and it also means that the levels feel incredibly dull for the greater part.
As far as gameplay goes, Peach can use her upgradeable umbrella to perform a set of attacks and grabs to make sure that enemies aren’t a problem.
Making Peach cry and aiming the tears at a plant will cause it to grow, creating a series of platforms which can help when you need to get up to a ledge that is too high to jump to.

Peach and the enemies she faces represent some of the better 2-D design I've seen, and their movements only add vibrance and energy to the game.
What's also new is the ability to flog your enemies with a parasol instead of just hopping on their heads, easy-access abilities rather than having to find a power-up in a breakable block, and the opportunity to purchase upgrades to health, "vibe" power, and the trusty parasol itself.
It causes a whirlwind around Peach that kills most enemies that touch her and enables her to blow through some obstacles, and also gives her the ability to fly at any time.
