 Westminster
Westminster Seminary is independent of ecclesiastical control, but it is not interdenominational or nondenominational in character, for it is committed to the Westminster Confession of Faith as the system of doctrine taught in the Bible and to the Presbyterian form of church government.
Westminster Seminary, in other words, is more than a protest against the trend toward modernism at Princeton Seminary; more than an institution set for the defense of the gospel; and even more than a seminary to carry on the traditions and policies of the old Princeton.
The seminary and its graduates are fired with a zeal to teach and to preach that men must believe in the God of the Bible if they are to know God as their heavenly Father, and if they are to have a consistent, logical, and reasonable view of the world.

A Short History of the Life of J. G. Machen
At the General Assembly of 1925, Charles Erdman (professor of practical theology at Princeton Seminary) was elected as moderator and appointed a commission (committee of fifteen) to examine the cause(s) of division and unrest in the church and to restore "purity, peace, unity and progress."
Thus, Princeton Seminary was reorganized in 1929, combining the board of directors (who had control of the educational programs), where the majority were conservative, with the board of Trustees (that oversaw or held the real property in trust), where the majority were moderates.
For example, Machen (wrote in 1927) feared that Princeton Seminary would become "inclusive of those who obscure the great issue of the day; but it will be exclusive of those who have determined to warn the church of her danger and to contend earnestly for the faith."

An offspring of the College, the Theological Seminary draws upon the common heritage of the vigorous reawakening of ``New Light'' Presbyterianism in the mid-1700s.
The founding of the Seminary deprived the College of the financial support of the Presbyterian establishment and only after the lay graduates of the College, many years later, began to acquire both wealth and concern for the welfare of their alma mater did the College regain its momentum in evolving into a leading liberal university.
Today, the Princeton Theological Seminary not only is the outstanding Presbyterian Seminary in the country but is one of the leading seminaries in the world.
