The year began with the endangered White rumped vultures, Rufous vented Prinias and Black Bellied Terns and ended with a surprising discovery of buttonquails wintering in Pakistan.
The birding year began with 3 Rufous vented Prinias in a small roadside pond near Bajrewala in Dera Ghazi Khan.
The Rufous vented Prinia is not rare as such in Pakistan, but these individuals were the 1st seen by me, and also sighting of an endangered bird were quite heartening.

Anyone visiting this area is bound to have the Birdwatcher’s Guide to India by Krys Kazmierczak and Raj Singh on which these notes are based.
Shikra, Yellow-footed Green Pigeon, Rufous Treepie, Blyth’s Reed Warbler, Brook’s Leaf Warbler, Graceful Prinia, Plain Prinia, 2 White-crowned Penduline Tits (to the west of the pond where Bristled Grassbird has bred), White-throated Fantail ssp canescens, Striated Grassbird, Yellow-eyed Babbler and Red Avadavat.
On the peninsula to the north-east of the dam could see a few terns roosting but didn’t have the scope with me. It is worth scanning from here.

Surely not a prinia, this a Babbler but it's not the Common Babbler, unstreaked back!
This is indeed a Prinia, to be exact a Black-chested Prinia (Prinia flavicans).
Agree with Rasmus - this is a Black-chested Prinia.

As a matter of fact, the Black bellied Tern is the commonest tern specie in the whole D. G Khan district.
