Topic: Prismatic blade

Blade (disambiguation) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A bladed weapon, especially a sword, may be referred to as a blade in itself.
Blade is a marionette from the Puppet Master movies, known for having a hook and knife as left and right hands respectively.
Blades is a common slang for inline skates.

 Blades and cores of Obsidian
Blades were struck from these cores to produce cutting tools of incredible sharpness.
The first flat blades struck from a core were flat and not particularly useful.
Later blades were struck along previous blade scars, producing a blade with a triangular cross-section, something archaeologists call a backed or prismatic blade which has greater strength than a flat blade.

Table of Contents and Excerpt, Collins, Clovis Blade Technology
Prismatic blades of stone are characteristic of only a few prehistoric cultures in the Americas.
Mesoamerican blade technology has been studied by a host of scholars who have amassed a great deal of archeological, ethnohistorical, and experimental data on where, when, and how blades were produced, as well as their economic importance and, in some cases, the social contexts of their production and consumption (Becker 1973; Boksenbaum et al.
This book is concerned with Clovis blades, one of the lesser known of the blade technologies in the Americas and one that was practiced by hunters and gatherers near the beginning, rather than by state-level specialists near the end, of American prehistory.

 Team Atlantis - Research Papers
Blades, prismatic cores, mammoth bones, and hearths from a variety of sites are also found in common with Clovis.
Baker initially emphasizes the importance of defining a "blade." A blade is broadly defined as a flake that is twice as long as it is wide.
In this paper, "true-blade" will be used to describe a blade produced from a prepared core (with intent by a true-blade technology), while "blade" will describe flakes that fit the general definition of blade (not necessarily from a true-blade technology).

 A COGNITIVE AND NEUROPSYCHOLOGIC
Unfortunately, prismatic blade technique has often been assigned this status simply because it is generally (but far from only or always) associated with modern humans.
D’Errico and colleagues emphasize that the blades in Châtelperronian assemblages were produced by a technique slightly different from that typical of the Aurignacian: “For cores, the Châtelperronians used large, thick flakes or small blocks and plaquettes which were purposefully shaped by the production of a crest along a smooth, long surface” (d’Errico et al.
To reiterate a point made earlier, prismatic blade techniques are not inherently more complex than Levallois techniques, and there is no reason to believe that Neandertal knappers could not have easily acquired the technique.

The basic form and proportions of the blades are vaguely reminiscent of Paleo points, though none are fluted and none exhibit basal grinding or the typically concave bases of Paleo points especially in the Northeast.
Width was a less important variableóthat is, his or her tolerance seems to have been greater for blades that were wider or narrower than the standard.
The blades are all fairly narrow, but width seems to have been the least important consideration.

The bearer of a chromatic blade is protected from color spray attacks, which will shatter upon the blade as soon as they come into contact it.
The blade can destroy one color of a prismatic sphere or one layer of a prismatic wall upon contact, but the blade is destroyed.
An individual of exceptional determination can strike with the blade so as to shatter the entire sphere or wall, but has a SO% chance to suffer the effects of all of the colors simultaneously (any saves are allowed), while leaving the barrier intact.

 Gault-Clovis Reconsidered
Clovis blades were used to make various kinds of tools including hide or endscrapers (the two specimens on left) and gravers with tiny beaks (two on right).
Then there are the blade tools—end scrapers made on blades, serrated blades, blades with sharp graver-like beaks, and blades with incredible use-wear traces.
The areas of polish are not as large and continuous on the experimental blade when compared to that on the archeological tool, suggesting that the experimenters have many more thousand strokes to put in.

Prismatic blade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In archaeology, a prismatic blade is a long, narrow, specialized lithic flake with parallel margins that may derive from a polyhedral blade core.
Prismatic blades are often triangular in cross section with several facets or flake scars on the dorsal surface.

While it is thought that prismatic blade production began during the Early Classic at Copán (Aoyama, 1996:190), no direct evidence for this, such as a workshop midden, has been recovered.
However, it is possible to identify prismatic blade production debitage in chronologically controlled fill contexts, thus refining an inferred starting date for blade production in the Copán Acropolis area.
It should be noted that, as a rule, Pachuca obsidian is limited to finished prismatic blades or bifacially worked points within the Copán Valley (Aoyama, 1996).

I didn't see any reason to "reinvent the wheel" and thought that since this is basically an advertisement for their program, they won't mind my using their text.
Since most of the presets that come with Blade Pro are way too wild for my taste, I made a backup copy of them then deleted the presets I would never use from the "Environments and Textures" folder.
Learning Blade Pro: As I stated at the beginning of this tutorial, I found using Blade Pro to be pretty confusing when I started using it because all the presets that come with the program are pretty wild.

The caster may use the blade as a weapon, attacking with his normal attack bonuses for a long sword (but without non-proficiency penalties if he is not proficient with a long sword normally).
While the blade is in effect, the caster cannot cast other spells, save for those which are verbal only, nor can he perform any actions which require both hands (though he can perform any actions which require only one hand).
A prismatic blade can be destroyed by the same spells that bring down a prismatic sphere, and as each spell negate a color, the blade's efficiency is reduced.

The so-called prismatic-blade core toolmaking technique involved removing the top from a stone, leaving a flat platform, and then breaking off multiple blades down the sides of the stone.
Each blade had a triangular cross-section, giving it excellent strength.
Using these blades as blanks, people made exquisitely shaped spearheads, knives, and numerous other kinds of tools.
