Recognizing that pro bono service may not be feasible for attorneys in these offices, the 5%/3% goals should be applied only to the total billable hours performed by firm attorneys working in the United States.
While we recognize and applaud the rich diversity of pro bono activities undertaken by law firms, with respect to the minimum aspirational goal established by the Challenge, we strongly support a special emphasis by firms on the legal problems of persons of limited means.
A number of firms have established a pro bono committee, identified an individual to serve as the firm's pro bono coordinator, or otherwise formally assigned someone in the firm the responsibility for ensuring that the firm offers interesting pro bono opportunities and supports its lawyers in undertaking pro bono work.

A successful pro bono match is one that is rewarding to the attorney and beneficial to the community.
Many attorneys volunteer for pro bono service by serving as counsel to community and non-profit associations, brokering agreements and negotiating settlements to improve the quality of neighborhoods and help churches and community groups develop shelters, affordable housing and needed facilities.
An attorney needs to select a pro bono option that is personally rewarding as he or she helps those less fortunate.

The Local Pro Bono Committee shall develop, in coordination with existing legal services organizations and pro bono referral organizations that provide services in the county, a detailed Local Pro Bono Action Plan to promote pro bono legal service to meet the needs of persons of limited means in the county.
Pro Bono Legal Service Reports for a given calendar year shall be filed with the Administrative Office of the Courts on or before February 15 of the following calendar year.
Pro Bono Legal Service Reports are confidential and are not subject to inspection or disclosure under Code, State Government Article, §10-615 (2)(iii).

I particularly object to the pro bono office's absurd claim that students are doing 400 hours instead of 40, clearly meant to suggest that there's some sort of surfeit of enthusiasm out there.
And the pro bono office certainly shouldn't be able to reap the benefits of my over-work.
