Not updated: Pro Life Alliance - Manifesto
The ProLife Alliance was born out of a growing conviction among large numbers of young voters, pro-life groups around the country and many other concerned citizens that many current policies are deeply harmful, not only to the individuals concerned, but to the common good of society.
The ProLife Alliance believes that in the truly just and caring society which we seek to create, abortion will cease to be an alternative which any decent person will want to consider and that, even if abortion is difficult to eliminate completely, this is no reason for legalising it.
The ProLife Alliance argues that abortion compounds violence with violence, that it is an indefensible response to a complex problem, and that abortion only deepens the trauma of the rape victim as well as taking the innocent life of her child.

The alliance was formed in October 1996 in time to field 55 candidates in the 1997 general election.
The alliance would also promote the importance of the family, the dignity of motherhood and fatherhood, and respect for human life, through education.
The alliance backed the parents of conjoined twins Jodie and Mary in the ultimately failed bid to stop the operation to separate the babies.

 Religion and the Prolife Movement
The prolife message as it is customarily presented has no compelling basis for most doctors and scientists because it has been transformed into a Christian religious doctrine.
If the prolife message is useless--even dangerous--to Christian physicians and scientists, how much more useless is it to those who profess an other-than-Christian faith or no faith at all.
Prolifers who can invoke such reasons can reach those who find "traditional" prolifers, saturated as they are with Christian symbols and vocabulary, literally incredible.

 BBC NEWS | VOTE2001 | Pro-life party fights BBC
The ProLife Alliance - which campaigns against abortion and euthanasia - mounted a similar legal challenge during the last general election campaign after the BBC made a similar decision.
A BBC spokesperson said: "The ProLife Alliance are taking the BBC to court because the broadcasters have told the alliance that their proposed broadcast is not suitable in its current form.
The ProLife Alliance, which has about 39 candidates standing in the general election, has now submitted a different film which it claims is substantially toned down from the last time.

ProLife Alliance was not prevented from saying whatever it wished about abortion.
In January 2002 an appeal by ProLife Alliance was heard by the Court of Appeal, comprising Simon Brown, Laws and Jonathan Parker LJJ.
In the absence of a successful claim that the offensive material restriction is not compatible with the Convention rights of ProLife Alliance, it is not for the courts to find that broadcasters acted unlawfully when they did no more than give effect to the statutory and other obligations binding on them.

ProLife offered the concession that the PEB be broadcast after 10 pm, with a warning for viewers, but the broadcasters judged that the images were ‘so offensive that it would not be appropriate to take that course in this case’.
ProLife responded by submitting two toned down versions of the video, neither of which was acceptable on the grounds of taste and decency.

Ananova - Court upholds ban on ProLife Alliance election broadcast
ProLife spokesman Bruno Quintavalle said the Court of Appeal itself would now be asked to hear the case.
During a two-day hearing, Mr Anderson had told the court that ProLife was a political party which had put up enough political candidates for the pending General Election to entitle it to a single party election broadcast in Wales, though not in England and Scotland.
ProLife's complaint was that the subject of abortion "barely figured on the political landscape".

The overall vote total for the Prolife Alliance was 19,176--hardly enough to have won a single seat even if all those votes had been been concentrated into one constituency.
Bruno Quintavalle, the founder of the Prolife Alliance, revealed that of the 21 members of the new Labor Cabinet who had been sitting in the House of Commons, every one had voted to allow legal abortion up to the moment of birth under certain circumstances.
Election broadcasts are often a highly sensitive element in British politics, and the Prolife Alliance film was not the only one to cause controversy this year.

Lord Hoffman said that the thrust of the Alliance’s submissions was that provisions requiring broadcasters not to show offensive material were incompatible with its rights under Article 10, although the Alliance had never explicitly made this argument (para 52).
The BBC had had to strike a balance between the Alliance’s right to freedom of expression and the right of the citizen “not to be shocked or affronted by inappropriate material transmitted into the privacy of his home” (para 123).
Lord Hoffman concluded that the Alliance PEB was unrelated to the specific policy of encouraging an informed choice at the ballot box.

Now we have seen the ProLife Alliance's unsuccessful appeal to the High Court to overturn a ruling by the BBC that will prevent them showing their party political broadcast.
Without this little fracas with the BBC, the ProLife Alliance's election campaign would probably have passed unnoticed, even by those who live in a constituency where a ProLife Alliance candidate is destined to lose his deposit.
It is also a shame that, by banning a party political broadcast, the BBC also forces some of us who consider the ProLife Alliance to be vile scum to defend their right to put their case in the way they choose.

 New British Cloning Law Allows
The ProLife Alliance, the group that brought the challenge against the January law, cheered the High Court's November 15 decision and hoped that Parliament would take time to consider all aspects of the human cloning issue and pass a bill that would ban all forms of cloning.
The alliance called for a "wholesale revision" of the 1990 Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act, which the January law was based on.
The ProLife Alliance said the bill was "riddled with loopholes and will be unable to serve its purpose," according to a press release.

The fact that its support has fallen by 25 per cent vindicates the view of BPAS that abortion is increasingly seen as a legitimate and morally responsible solution to unwanted pregnancy.
