When a ProQuake client connects to a ProQuake server, the angles are sent as integers between 0 and 65535, giving you 256 times the accuracy that you have in standard quake, and enough resolution to pick up a one pixel difference in your aiming direction.

This isn't a problem with the ProQuake server, it's an inherent problem with the Quake 1 network protocol which the ProQuake client managed to overcome with a little kludge.
The reason it only happens on ProQuake servers is a command called pq_connecttimeout, which times out the connection if the client isn't finished with the signon (default value is 10).
The DNS fix that ProQuake made doesn't cause any problems and is a very good idea (it was also one of the first fixes I made when I got the Quake source back in 1999).

Considering this is ProQuake 3.20 and not 3.50, I have no idea how well/crappy it will work behind a router.
ProQuake 3.40 is the first ProQuake with the router fix code so...
And finally, if you are using GL with Linux behind a router you might consider JoeQuake 0.15, but I believe you have to compile it yourself and you'd have to ask that in the JoeQuake forum but I'm thinking this would require a lot of libraries so beware.

You should be running ProQuake for your Quake client but if you want the GL version, it needs GLQuake to be installed.
ProQuake is THE Quake client and server to use for net Quake 1.
You should be using ProQuake for your client but ProQuake requires that you have WinQuake installed.

There's nothing in the.exe to indicate a command with which to toggle it on as ProQuake has with the PQ_MAXFPS "xxx".
The docs for FuhQuake (which is partially what the JoeQuake engine is built on) say it's cl_maxfps for FuhQuake but JoeQuake doesn't support it so...
My guess is that if you run the same resolution, it'll be 72 FPS as well.

To my knowledge, FuhQuake and EZQuake are what most players use, although a few years ago ZQuake was the engine carrying the flag.
The main reason I am asking this is that I've probably played a year of Quake in the last 3 years and even then I haven't been paying full attention
A few different sites have run polls on what Quake client they use for multiplayer and ProQuake(+ XQuake) comes in at about 60%, JoeQuake 25%, original Quake 25% with about 60 votes.

This has been tested with nmap V. ProQuake servers are very much effected by this bug.
The bug described below has been fixed in ProQuake, the author J.P. Grossman has released ProQuake 1.02, this version also introduces a pq_draqfps console variable.
ID was checking for a message and if the packet size was zero then it was an error, then preventing any more connections.

This involves making changes so that they only use maps and files from the id Software pak0.pak, the pak file included in shareware Quake.
The idea being that somebody could download Quake shareware, install one of the better, modern executables (ProQuake, JoeQuake, etc), connect to a sharewarized server and start playing for free.
Hopefully this will attract a few more people to Quake and of course, once they realize how great this ground breaking game is they will buy the full version.

I just tried connecting again to fvf.servequake.com:26000 using standard 'connect' (as opposed to 'nqconnect', which I was using previously), and I experienced the same problem.
That's a ProQuake server, but it doesn't seem that this should make a difference.
