Proclamation Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Proclamation Day is the South Australian public holiday that celebrates the proclamation of South Australia as a British province.
The proclamation included the same protection under the law for the local native population as for the settlers.
Proclamation Day also refers to October 21, 1890, the day that responsible government was proclaimed in Western Australia.

THE FIRST THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION - Archiving Early America
A Thanksgiving Day two hundred years ago was a day set aside for prayer and fasting, not a day marked by plentiful food and drink as is today's custom.
Later in the 18th century each of the states periodically would designate a day of thanksgiving in honor of a military victory, an adoption of a state constitution or an exceptionally bountiful crop.
uch a Thanksgiving Day celebration celebration was held in December of 1777 by the colonies nationwide, commemorating the surrender of British General Burgoyne at Saratoga.

Fast days were a common occurrence in the early days of the colonies.
These were days of public humiliation, fasting and prayer proclaimed by the royal governors of the colonies to avert or repent for calamities such as plagues, earthquakes, crop failures, etc. Fast days were generally held before the spring planting, and a thanksgiving day was held after the harvest.
John Cutt, President of the Council that declared this day of humiliation, became the reason for a day of "public fasting and prayer." Cutt was born in England in 1613, emigrated to the colonies in 1646, and became a prosperous merchant in Portsmouth.

Mother's Day was originally started after the Civil War, as a protest to the carnage of that war, by women who had lost their sons (and daughters although that much-kept secret wasn’t mentioned at the time).
This is because Mother's Day began as a holiday that commemorated women's public activism, not as a celebration of a mother's devotion to her family.
On the other hand, as early as 1885, Mary Towles Sasseen defined Mother's Day as "a day which parents shall be invited to the school and a programme presented, the recitation being on the subject of mother and songs referring to home." She first celebrated Mother's Day in her classroom in 1887.

The 1730 Thanksgiving Day Proclamation was issued at the beginning of Jonathan Belcher's governorship of the colonies of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, which lasted from 1730 to 1741.

Religious groups routinely seek governmental proclamations, and since such proclamations do not have the force of law, involve no money from taxpayers, and call for no particular action, they are very difficult to challenge in court, First Amendment experts said.

And so, Mother's Day originally was not a day when dad cooked and you went to church, and the ladies got applause and everything.
It was really a day for women to come together and to call men and the world to see the necessity for living in peace, rather than giving into the ravages and aggressions of war.
But the Mother's Day that we know today actually came from a woman named Anna Jarvis, who knew about Howe's work, and she was a West Virginian, and in 1907, persuaded her home church to celebrate a Mother's Day, and it sort of caught on.
