PROCRUSTES is a package for the Macintosh family of personal computers, which performs shape analyses using landmarks.
Procrustes 2.0 has a standard Macintosh interface that includes pulldown menus, command windows, buttons, etc. The path through Procrustes 2.0 is indicated by the successive activation of menus or guided by big arrows located in windows edges.
Procrustes 2.0 is System 7 friendly except that it does not support the Multifinder function.

Procrustes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Greek mythology, Procrustes (the stretcher), also known as Damastes (subduer) and Polypemon (harming much), was a bandit from Attica.
Procrustes continued his reign of terror until he was captured by Theseus, who "fitted" Procrustes to his own bed and cut off his head and feet (since Theseus was a stout fellow, the bed had been set on the short position).
Killing Procrustes was the last adventure of Theseus on his journey from Troezen to Athens.

Efficient algorithms for the "partial Procrustes problem" in which some elements of the target variables are missing are still under development.
It would be inappropriate, for example, to have the first variable measured in grams ranging from 5000 to 8000, the second variable measured in dollars ranging from 3 to 12, and the third variable measured in meters ranging from 100 to 280.

Encyclopedia of Greek Mythology: Procrustes   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Procrustes, whose name means "he who stretches", was arguably the most interesting of Theseus's challenges on the way to becoming a hero.
Procrustes described it as having the unique property that its length exactly matched whomsoever lay down upon it.
What Procrustes didn't volunteer was the method by which this "one-size-fits-all" was achieved, namely as soon as the guest lay down Procrustes went to work upon him, stretching him on the rack if he was too short for the bed and chopping off his legs if he was too long.

Procrustes Analysis and...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Procrustes analysis seeks to transform the data from a sensor/judge so as to better match the data from other sensors.
Procrustes analysis works to maximize the agreement for the data from several sensors through translation, rotation, and scaling transformations.
It is shown that Procrustes analysis can reduce the disagreement between sensor data and provide a consensus as to the state of the process.

He was an Athenian bandit who lived on a mountain path in ancient Greece; it was his habit to waylay travelers and fit them to an iron bed kept in his cave.

Procrustes met his end when Theseus passed that way, took exception to the bandit's hobby, and, as the tale says, served him as he served his victims.

 Kunkel & Bettencourt Table I
Morphological distance matrix of Procrustes distances (lower triangular matrix) and tangent space approximations (upper triangular matrix) between averaged landmark coordinates of the two sexes (m/f) of three Drosophila melanogaster strains.
The tabulated distances are seen to be not exactly symetrical due to the fact that differences in tangent space are exhibited as rotations of landmarks on a spherical surface while Procrustes distances are measured as differences on a plane in Euclidean space.
This direct confirmation of the close equivalence of Procrustes distances and their tangent space approximations further argues that the proceding analysis using thin plate splines (done in tangent space) is not a distortion of reality.
