Culture Shock: The TV Series and Beyond: Hollywood Censored: The Production Code
Hollywood Censored: Movies, Morality and the Production Code, premiering on PBS Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at 9pm (check local listings), explores how the American motion picture industry practiced self-censorship as a strategy for cultural and economic survival to answer growing charges of immorality.
Hays convinced the studios that accepting the Code was the safest and cheapest answer to their troubles.
The Production Code's days were numbered in 1952 when movies were finally granted free speech protection under the First Amendment.

On their part, they ask from the public and from public leaders a sympathetic understanding of their purposes and problems and a spirit of cooperation that will allow them the freedom and opportunity necessary to bring the motion picture to a still higher level of wholesome entertainment for all the people.
In both these ways, that is, as a product of a mind and as the cause of definite effects, it has a deep moral significance and unmistakable moral quality.
Hence: The motion pictures, which are the most popular of modern arts for the masses, have their moral quality from the intention of the minds which produce them and from their effects on the moral lives and reactions of their audiences.

 production code
A self-regulatory code of ethics created in 1930 by the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (M.P.P.D.A.), under Will H. Hays, and put into strict effect on July 1, 1934, with Joseph I. Breen as director of the Code Administration.
The code set forth general standards of "good taste" and specific do's and don't's concerning what could and could not be shown in American movies.
The new code still paid tribute to virtue and condemned sin but suggested restraint in treating sexual themes on the screen, rather than forbidding them outright, and corrected the balance by forbidding explicit detail of violence and brutality.

Production Code Vs Unit Tests Ratio
Therefore the prudent conclusion remains that 0 lines of code of UnitTest can be perfectly acceptable engineering practice, and no evidence or reasoned argument has been shown to the contrary.
Emotionally, I would start to be concerned if the quantity of test code were to be come equal to the production code, because it would appear that the test code may become a higher risk area than the code itself.
One data point from my private project is that I achieved 100% code coverage with 1:5 ratio between lines of tests and lines of code, and that doesn't mean that the code is perfect or bug-free.

The production zone’s boundary continues along the administrative borders of Siena, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Castellina, Monteriggioni and Poggibonsi until it encounters, at the Borro di Granaio, the confines of the province of Florence, which it follows as far as the Le Valli farm.
The boundary of the Chianti Classico production zone then re-enters the province of Siena and follows the administrative borders of the communes of Radda in Chianti, Gaiole and, for a short distance, that of Castelnuovo Berardenga before reaching the point of departure of the description of this zone.

Code deployed in embedded systems is termed "production code." Production-code generation helps software and electronics engineers by providing a common framework for adding software details to the behavioral algorithm model.
Production- code generation is one piece of this effort and it is employed throughout software design and module integration.
For simulation and code generation, it is possible to set warning and error flags that detect a variety of mistyped operations.

Quality Programming - The Production Prototype
In such cases, you are “encouraged” to take the prototype code and use it as the skeleton for the product.
In addition, the code is probably not as simple and as clear as it should be, because after all this was just a prototype.
The production code should be written as such: it should be clean, simple and clear; it should be well designed and support all the known features a priori.

 Production Aspects
Production aspects tend to add functionality to an application rather than merely adding more visibility of the internals of a program.
Just as with development aspects, production aspects may need to be removed from the system, either because the functionality is no longer needed at all, or because it is not needed in certain configurations of a system.
When we first looked at the code for this aspect, we were able to use the IDE support provided in AJDE for JBuilder to see what methods the aspect was advising compared to our manual coding.

Lasse's weblog - Generating production code from tests
When thinking about TDD I always think about Kent Beck sentence "throw away all my production code but keep my test code" (not verbatim), the principle is that it should be possible to generate production code on the basis of only test code.
My conclusion was that production code generation from tests is not going to work very well.
Code generator can then generate code that does not use loop but instead it just returns correct values for all the test cases.

More Sinned Against than Sinning: The Fabrications of "Pre-Code Cinema"
The Production Code was a sign of Classical Hollywood's cultural centrality, and its history is a history of the attempts by cultural elites to exercise a controlling surveillance over the mass culture of industrial capitalism.
In complete contradiction to the mythology of the Code not functioning during the early 1930s, its records reveal that this period actually saw by far the most interesting negotiations between the studios and the Code administrators over the nature of movie content, as the Code was implemented with increasing efficiency and strictness after 1930.
The Code's other principle permitted producers to deny responsibility for a movie's content, through a particular kind of ambiguity, a textual indeterminacy that shifted the responsibility for determining what the movie's content was away from the producer to the individual spectator.

Tony Obermeit on Code Coverage Lessons
Code coverage is a metric that tells you how much of the source code for an application is run when the unit tests for the application are run.
Both of these were written targetting 100% coverage from the first line of code and were written test first: the unit test was almost always written before any of the production code was written.
Before I switched to test first development, I'd write the code that I thought solved the problem and then proved that it did what I thought it should, whether that mean writing details to a log file, stepping through a debugger, or visually watching the results of running the code.

Experience suggested that pair programming made the team more productive in the Chrysler project, so it became a rule that all production code must be written by a pair.
This means that all code gets the benefit of many people's attention, which increases code quality and reduces defects.
There is another important benefit as well: when code is owned by individuals, required features are often put in the wrong place, as one programmer discovers that he needs a feature somewhere in code that he does not own.
