		Professor Branestawm is the invention of the English writer, Norman Hunter (1899 - 1995).
		The time and word limits of a radio programme and the need for a clear story line with firmly stated characters suited Hunter's talents as a writer, however the radio was not enough to show his love of theatrical visual humour and the use of comic spelling.
		The Professor had a bald head with a high forehead which was handy as he needed room for all the pairs of spectacles.

		Besides the Branestawm stories, Hunter also wrote about a fairy-tale kingdom called Incrediblania.

		The Incredible Adventures Of Professor Branestawm, first published in November 1933, is a wonderful work of invention by its author, with drawings to match by Heath Robinson.
		Hunter created surreal stories of crazy inventions, written in a marvellously bizarre vocabulary, with the Professor portrayed as a happy loony, creating odd contraptions to help the community of Pagwell, where he lives.
		Hunter went on to write several Branestawm sequels, and this TV series was based on stories in both the original 1933 book and its successor, Professor Branestawm's Treasure Hunt, published in 1937.
