 DVD Times - The Animatrix
The Animatrix however twists this slightly to provide us with a series of films rather than television episodes, and ones directed by some of anime’s leading directors at that.
Presenting the characters with oversized bodies serves to emphasise the physicality of its protagonist and others, meaning the film manages to be overtly stylised without ever seeming to compromise its narrative integrity; this is the only Animatrix to create a perfect symbiosis between style and content, and as such rewards repeat viewings.
Set within a combat training program, this adds such incongruities as horses and a medieval Oriental setting to the mix, inviting comparisons with Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

 Animatrix, The reviewed by AllZone4DVD.net
Funny then that this release was so down-played and quiet (I only heard about it by accident), also funny that the Animatrix was released to cinema so close to the release of "Reloaded", you'd think that releasing it last year when we had hordes of rabid Matrix fans looking for anything to satisfy their hunger.
Some points off for bad behaviour were "Program" which is filmed in a dark, 2D "Traditional" Japanese style which I hated and "Kid Story" which had ok colours but had animation drawn in a freehand style that made me feel ill and detracted from the story.

 DVD Review: The Animatrix
Rounding out the supplemental section are a group of profiles on the "Animatrix" animators and a look at the making of the "Enter the Matrix" video game.
Given the fact that the story of "The Matrix: Reloaded" was too big to tell in one nearly 150-minute movie, elements of the story are being told both in the video game "Enter the Matrix" and this set of animated features, the "Animatrix".
The other shorts, which are the animator's own looks at the "Matrix" universe, are not always as compelling story-wise, but the animation is nothing short of spectacular and the different styles are marvelous to watch.

 Anime Academy Review - Animatrix
The Animatrix is a series of short stories that is based around the matrix environment.
If you can't find an episode in the Animatrix that you like, then most likely you're not "Into the Matrix." These shorts should definitely be on the top any viewers watchlist, simply because they are just new and unique.
Overall, the Animatrix is just plainly the Matrix movie, but animated, which makes the story that much better.

The Animatrix is a series of nine stories by different directors set in the Matrix universe, all of them conceived and commissioned by the Wachowski brothers.
The reason why I gave 'The Animatrix' four stars and not five is that the endings are ambigous when what you really want is a definite answer.Even with this flaw 'The Animatrix' is brilliant and a must have for any Matrix fan.

 THE ANIMATRIX (3*)
I found PROGRAM and BEYOND particularly intriguing, with PROGRAM casting the Matrix into a samurai adventure, and BEYOND putting the Matrix into the context of a "virtual Japan" and imagining what happens when some bugs occur in the system.
* Given the wild success of the Wachowski brothers' movie THE MATRIX, it's not surprising they have evolved their ideas in THE ANIMATRIX, a set of nine short animated features developed as a cross-Pacific effort.
In addition, if you're expecting a thrill ride like THE MATRIX, THE ANIMATRIX probably won't make you happy.

 Film Threat - Reviews
Program” is the second installment in “The Animatrix,” a series of short films set in the universe of The Matrix.
So far, “The Animatrix” is shaping up to be a neat series, staying true to the comic book inspirations that first sparked in the minds of Andy and Larry Wachowski.
Told as a stand-alone story, “Program” is an interesting look into the minds of the warriors against the machines, and what can tempt them.

The Reader - Get Yours Today!
The centerpiece of The Animatrix is "The Second Renaissance part 1 & 2." Written by the Wachowski Brothers, this two-part short is the history of man’s struggle with the machines that accelerate from riots to a bloody war to the machines’ hostile takeover.
While The Animatrix appears as little more than a piece of the Matrix-marketing pie, the collection of animated shorts is not your average movie tie-in.
However, for anime lovers and Matrix fans, The Animatrix is a fantastic ride deep into the rabbit hole.
