The Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba is a right-of-centre political party in Manitoba, Canada.
The Conservative Party was not yet a legally recognized institution in the province, however, and began to lose its conherence again after Norquay's death in 1889.
The Manitoba Conservatives received their greatest strongest from the francophone community in the 1915 election, due to the fact that the party was seen as more supportive than the Liberals of francophone education rights.

Part of the reason for separating the Progressive Party from the UFM was the perception that the government had a narrow base representing only farmers, rather than all Manitobans.
The Conservatives had re-named their party the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba due to the change in name of the federal party, and despite not having any link with the Progressives.
The Liberal-Progressives the party formally became known as the Manitoba Liberal Party in 1961.

Even though the Quebec Conservative Party dominated politics in that province for the first thirty years of Confederation at both the federal and provincial levels, in the 20th century the party was never able to be a force in provincial politics, and ultimately dissolved into the Union Nationale in 1935.
As was common amongst 19th century conservative movements, Canadian Tories opposed the rollback of Crown intervention in social and economic matters advocated by the liberals of the era.
In contrast to their American conservative counterparts, however, they did not undertake as dramatic an ideological turnaround in the first half of the 20th century in rejecting mercantilism and nascent notions of the welfare state.

Gary Filmon (born August 24, 1942) was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba from 1983 to 2000, and served as Premier from 1988 to 1999.

We had commented on it in the early 1990s that the Premier should realize that you cannot take the chief fundraiser for the Conservative Party and put him in as secretary of Treasury Board, issuing and recommending on contracts to be awarded on the basis of merit in the public service.
Madam Speaker, the actions of the Conservative Party were despicable, were beyond belief, and I want to note that not only has the Premier not apologized for that particular aspect of what happened, but he has yet, even in his previous comments, to deal with some concerns that we have.
I am hearing this, by the way, from many honest Conservatives who are very disenchanted, and I say that seriously, very disenchanted with the lack of honesty they have seen from senior officials in their party.

According to Elections Manitoba, the following contributions to the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba were made in 1998: $337.50 from the City of Steinbach; $1,312.50 from the Rural Municipality of Hanover; and $2,062.50 from the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie.
Elections Manitoba is required to allow public access to its records of contributions of $250 or more made to registered political parties.
