  A Brief History of the Conservative Party of Canada
Chrétien prepared to pass the leadership of the Liberal Party to Paul Martin, the party was touted as being invincible.
Ninety-nine Conservatives were elected to the House of Commons.  This represented the most Conservatives to sit in the House since the government of Brian Mulroney, and the largest Official Opposition caucus in a generation.   Paul Martin and the Liberal Party were reduced to a minority government.
The Conservative Party continues to grow.  Canadians will be watching Conservatives head into their policy convention in Montreal on March 17-19, to plan for the next federal election, and define the future.

The Clear Grits and ´´Parti rouge´´ functioned as a united bloc in the legislature of the Province of Canada beginning in 1854, and a united Liberal Party combining both English and French Canadian members was formed in 1861.
The Conservatives lost the support of Quebecers because of the role of Conservative governments in the execution of Louis Riel, the suppression of the rights of French-Canadians outside of Quebec, and their role in the Conscription crisis of 1917.
In April 2005, David Kilgour, one of the party´s two MPs from Alberta announced that he was leaving the party to sit as an independent member of the House of Commons due to the damaging allegations of corruption in the Liberal Party´s Quebec wing based on testimony in the Gomery Commission inquiry.

The principal rivers are the Churchill, North and South Saskatchewan, and Qu'Appelle.
Except for a semiarid section in the southwest used for grazing and an area in the east and central portion given over to mixed farming and dairying, the land is devoted to the raising of hard wheat.
The Progressive Conservative party, with Grant Divine as premier, was in power from 1982 until 1991, when Roy Romanow led the NDP back to power (in coalition with the Liberals after 1999).

 File lawsuit over trust fund, judge tells Sask. PCs
Grant Schmidt, a longtime Progressive Conservative who was a cabinet minister in former premier Grant Devine's administration, said the party is entitled to about $3 million of the trust fund.
The Saskatchewan Party was formed in the '90s by a group of Liberal and Progressive Conservative MLAs.
However, Saskatchewan Party executive director Bob Mason said his party has nothing to do with the trust fund fight.
