KING CRIMSON ProjeKct Two - SPACE GROOVE reviews and MP3
For those who have the affinity, for never forget how the projeKcts view is one select and even eccentric, this material is very good and audible to the limits of comprehension and savor.
ProjeKct Two-Space Groove is not a sole residual production, but a strong auto-managed improvisatorial effect, one to which the general scapes of King Crimson contemporaneity reward it.
ProjeKct Two's "Space Groove" is 90 minutes of improvs from three members of King Crimson.

Projekct One, with Fripp, Trey Gunn, Tony Levin, and Bill Bruford, proves to be the most rambunctious of the four, providing dynamic interaction and stunning displays of energy on disc one.
Projekct Three is similar, this time with Pat Mastelotto on drums, but with a definite world music influence not heard on the other discs.
Lastly, Projekct Four, the same lineup as Projekct One but with Mastelotto, is the most mesmerising of the four, providing a magical listening experience for any who wish to make the incredible journey.

 Pat Mastelotto
Crimson fragmented into smaller, more manageable R&D units known as "projekcts", touring small clubs incognito, and improvising their way towards the next level.
The hefty Projekcts 4-CD box set has been edited down from hundreds of hours of tapes to showcase the best of Crimson's four current subdivisions.
Projekct One is pretty much what you'd expect, Fripp and Trey Gunn's guitars carving corrosive noise or icy ambience around bassist Tony Levin and drummer Bill Bruford, while Projekct Two sees Fripp and Gunn struggling to forge something solid around Adrian Belew's rather flimsy drums.

Ground and Sky review - King Crimson - The ProjeKcts
The ProjeKct One disc is probably the closest to standard jazz fusion, mostly due to the acoustic drums (all the other sets feature electronic drums and samples).
The source material for it came mainly from live improv performances, but then the music was edited with bits and pieces moved here and there to "make a better flow and cover a few, but not all, brown spots" (according to the liner notes).
Disc 2 is cold electronic music with an almost lounge-music type feel to it and Disc 1 has the raw improvisational feel and excitement of acoustic jazz but with sometimes corrosive and sometimes ambient edges.

Fripp has responded by forming Crimson "Projekcts" on both sides of the Atlantic, which he describes as "research and development fractals of King Crimson", after a recent Polish tour, where he realised that not playing the 1970s hits to an audience for whom the ticket price would be a monumental expenditure, was simply unfair.

ProjeKct one is the closest to an 'old' KC, with Fripp, Gunn, Levin and Bruford on 'real' drums - the other three work with on v-drums - and 'Live at the Jazz Cafe' is culled from their 4 night 'tour'.
The second ProjeKct was the longest running - in addition to a double album it toured for six months in July 98.
The lineup for ProjeKct 4 is the same as the 2000 Crimson - Fripp, Gunn, Levin and Mastelotto - and over 7 dates in late 1998 they developed a complex, mellow, thoughtful groove that augurs very well for the new album.

ProjeKct One - Jazz Café, London: December 4, 1997: When King Crimson splintered in the late 90s to experiment with new sounds, it quickly became apparent where the majority of the band was headed: electronic.
There was one real holdout to going all-electronic, drummer Bill Bruford, and that’s ironic given his stature as one of the leading proponents of electronic drumming in the 80s.
And so ProjeKct One, with Bruford behind his acoustic kit and Fripp, Gunn, and Levin manning their instruments, convened in London for a four-night stay to bash out new material.

 The ProjeKcts
Notes: Bill Bruford kicked off the process Robert Fripp was to call 'fraKctalisation' when he suggested playing a series of live shows with Fripp.
That plan became a quartet with Levin and Gunn, later titled ProjeKct One, but Fripp expanded the idea to a series of line-ups drawn from the then six members of King Crimson (Bruford, Fripp, Levin, Gunn, Belew, Mastelotto) to act, as Fripp put it, as RandD projects for the full band.
Thus came ProjeKcts Two, Three and Four, but not in that order, and later ProjeKct X.

King Crimson : The Deception of the Thrush - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
For the uninitiated, ProjecKcts refers to the splintering of King Crimson bandmembers into sub-bands, which occurred after the group reunited in the mid-'90s with a self-proclaimed "double trio" line-up (which, as you might've already guessed, saw two guitarists, two bassists, and two drummers take the stage).
Split into four different ProjeKcts (ProjeKct One, ProjeKct Two, etc.), you'll get a sampling of all on this release.
The only thing is that the music included appears to be almost completely improvised, and certainly passes the border of boring and into indulgent after a while.
