	ProjeKct X - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		ProjeKct X (pronounced "Project Ten") was a side-project of the music band King Crimson.
		In 2000, while the band King Crimson recorded their album The ConstruKction of Light, the four members of this line-up also recorded the album Heaven and Earth as ProjeKct X. This continued the tradition of ProjeKcts One, Two, Three, and Four (sub-groups into which King Crimson 'fraKctalised' from 1997 to 1999).
		The X stands for roman numeral 10, being in spirit "1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10", the sum of the previous ProjeKcts.

		The ProjeKct One disc is probably the closest to standard jazz fusion, mostly due to the acoustic drums (all the other sets feature electronic drums and samples).
		The source material for it came mainly from live improv performances, but then the music was edited with bits and pieces moved here and there to "make a better flow and cover a few, but not all, brown spots" (according to the liner notes).
		Disc three's notes include technical info from Pat Mastelotto on how the drums were played and recorded, and how the album was mixed.

		However, I own all the ProjeKCt albums, both live and studio, and I was fortunate enough to see ProjeKCt Two in concert, so I know the material.
		As one might expect, the ProjeKCt results were a grandly mixed bag, and depending on the willingness of the listener to abandon expectations and take what was given to them, the concerts (and CDs) were either quite fascinating and sometimes compelling, or a tremendous waste of time and money.

	Progressive Ears Album Reviews
		The Projekcts is a four disc collection, each disc of which contains a largely improvised live peformance by a different "fractal" of King Crimson.
		Probably the most interesting disc is the Projeckt Three disc, "Masque", since it is performed by 3/4 of the lineup that would eventually emerge as the new King Crimson and incorporates an electronica influence previously unheard in earlier Crimson music.
		The least interesting is Projeckt Two's Live Groove because of its stretches of faux synth piano and marimba that veer uncomfortably close to cocktail jazz in spots.

		Within the confines of this box set, each projeKct is given their own disc.
		Unfortunately in the case of The ProjeKcts, they may have taken the improvisation a bit too far.
		There are a few places throughout the disc where Levin sets up some cool grooves for the other three to improvise on, but overall, the songs never go anywhere.

		ProjeKct X is what is currently being described by Robert Fripp as the "other" side of King Crimson.
		A corresponding ProjeKct X album named "Heaven And Earth" was released at approximately the same time as the "The ConsruKction Of Light" album through DGM.

		The drummer's break into the big time arrived in 1982 when songwriters Richard Page and Steve George enlisted his services for their new band Mr.
		To fill in the gaps between the availability of the entire group for recording and touring, several splinter configurations were created as a form of 'research and development': of these, Mastelotto participated in ProjeKct Three, ProjeKct X (both studio based) and ProjeKct Four (which toured in 1998).
		In 1997 Bruford decided to turn his attention full time to his jazz combo Earthworks, and Pat Mastelotto found himself the sole drummer for King Crimson.
