For the past three years we have been monitoring and maintaining the boxes, and in 2005 we were rewarded with the first signs that bluebirds were utilizing the boxes.

The interns have been working with the commission since November on a new project to help attract the eastern bluebird to the Sewickley Creek Wetlands, located in Westmoreland County along Route 66 near Delmont.
In box 16 near a lake on the wetlands were eastern bluebird fledglings, which Stefko showed some middle school students through opening a side panel on the box.
In addition to the bluebird boxes, interns currently are working to plant wildflower beds to attract butterflies and hummingbirds, and are researching the fl bear, according to Stefko.
