Project Blue Book - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Project Sign was succeeded at the end of 1948 by Project Grudge, which had a debunking mandate.
The decision to discontinue UFO investigations was based on an evaluation of a report prepared by the University of Colorado entitled, "Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects;" a review of the University of Colorado's report by the National Academy of Sciences; previous UFO studies and Air Force experience investigating UFO reports during 1940 to 1969.
Project Blue Book featured in a small but important role in the 1990–1991 TV series Twin Peaks, wherein Major Garland Briggs, a military officer involved in the project, is directed to divulge certain information recorded by the project from deep space probes to the protagonist of the series, FBI agent Dale Cooper.

Project Blue Book was a project organized by the United States Air Force.
Many UFO researchers said that the project was the governments way to downplay the UFO phenomenon.
The fact is that years after the project's termination there are a lot of questions that still haven't found an answer.

 Project Bluebook, UFO Casebook Files
This extract is from: "An Analysis of the Condon Report on the Colorado UFO Project," by P.A. Sturrock, Center for Space Science and Astrophysics, Stanford University.
The Project might have faded away altogether except for a series of sightings at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, which resulted in the military itself criticizing the Air Force for its poor investigation of something that seemed to be a threat to national security.
One example was that, during a wave of UFO sightings, a Soviet attack or an overflight by a Russian intelligence-gathering aircraft might not be recognized as such until it was too late.

This new project was called upon to investigate all re-entry phenomena including debris from satellites, launches, etc. However, the budget was drastically reduced so that research into UFO reports could not be maintained at the earlier level.
The nature of UFO phenomena is such that it would be unreasonable to demand repeat observations of the same kind of incident and independent confirmation of events by different observers.
The questions being addressed are quite different in nature: the SETI project aims at a simple Yes/No answer to the question of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence, whereas research into the UFO project must be pursued with a completely open mind as to the questions that need to be posed and answered.

Project Silverbug - The Avrocar - Crystalinks
The project of which the Avro-car was a part was originally known as Project Y, funded by Canada, but was taken over by the U.S. Air Force in late 1953 - early 1954, as their Project 606, with an interest by the US Army.
Project Silver Bug was the American "Black" project version of the Avro Aircraft Canada Y-2/ Private Venture 704 project that was revealed to the United States Air Force in 1955.
Project Y-2 was begun by the Canadian John Frost, who was apparently in the loop on Nazi Saucer programs and was quite fascinated by them.

 [No title]
In early 1986, the outline of a proposal to create a UFO hoax was sent to several members of the "UFO community." One of the people who received this material was Dale Goudie of the UFO Reporting and Information Service in Seattle, Washington.
The problem is that actual UFO events don't take place when you want them to, and it would be only by providence that we would be in position at the time of a sighting.
Since we do not, and most probably can not know the true motives behind proposing a plan to create a hoax, and whether or not a hoax of any nature was executed, the actions of a person who suggested such a plan, and those close to him or her must be examined closely.

For decades, a rich mythology has developed around the claim that Nazi Germany's engineers secretly developed one or more super-sophisticated saucer-shaped aircraft and unmanned disc-like missiles, and that this technology was appropriated by the US or the Soviet Union in the post-war period.
The first public revelation of the existence of the AS 6 did not come until 1973, in spite of decades of flying saucer publicity and the fact that many of the Komet pilots had thoroughly documented their activities at Brandis.

UFO sightings were explained as balloons, conventional aircraft, planets, meteors, optical illusions, solar reflections, or even "large hailstones." GRUDGE officials found no evidence in UFO sightings of advanced foreign weapons design or development, and they concluded that UFOs did not threaten US security.
It declared that UFOs did not threaten the national security and that it could find "no UFO case which represented technological or scientific advances outside of a terrestrial framework." The committee did recommend that UFOs be studied intensively, with a leading university acting as a coordinator for the project, to settle the issue conclusively.
There was no formal or official UFO project within the Agency in the 1980s, and Agency officials purposely kept files on UFOs to a minimum to avoid creating records that might mislead the public if released.

Research paper: SHOULD THE USAF REOPEN PROJECT BLUE BOOK?
When Project Blue Book was closed in 1969, the official Air Force estimates of "unsolved" cases ranged from less than 1 per cent to 2.09 per cent.(14:259) Ruppelt's 1953 statement placed the number of UFO sightings that could not be positively identified at 93 per cent.
Project Blue Book officials made meager attempts at "solving" the case by asking information of two other USAF offices, No attempt was made, however, to recontact the Hills or to interview them in person.
Project Blue Book had failed to include the additional item from the report which referred to a "strange incident (that) occurred at 0214 local on 20 Sept (1961)." The "strange incident", of course, was the report of a radar sighting by Pease AFB precision approach radar.

 Project Mogul UFO sightings
One of the ironies of using Project Mogul to try to explain away the Roswell case and other New Mexico sightings is that Mogul and later Skyhook balloon personnel themselves contributed many high-quality UFO sightings.
(see Chapters 6 & 9) he said they had nearly all had baffling UFO sightings and were confirmed saucer "believers." One person told him the saucer sightings were so common to one tracking crew that they were no longer interested in them.
Whenever Ruppelt suggested that maybe they were just seeing their own balloons, he joked that they got so angry that they practically threw him out into the blizzard raging outside.
