The issue of age restrictions for entry to the Prometheus Society has been discussed and it has seemed reasonable to us at this time not to accept individuals under the age of 16 years, although we are somewhat split with regard to the age limit for scores that can be allowed.
If the recommendations of this Society are approved, we will begin a new era with new members joining based on a diverse spectrum of psychometric instruments, but each with credentials establishing him or her at the 1-in-30,000 level of capabilities as measured by a particular instrument.

Admission to this society, founded 3 months after Mensa was founded in the U.K., was based on College Admission tests to the University of California at Berkeley, which was similar to the American College Admission exams later taken by American students across the USA in the late 1940's.
The MM Society (also known as "Double M") was founded in 1966 as a Mensa's Mensa, with the intent of accepting at the top 50th of the top 50th (one-in-2500) percentile.
The Exa Society is a name suggested by Richard May in the August 1983 issue of Vidya, the journal of the Triple Nine Society, as a society that would accept only one entity per 10-to-the-15th power, meant as a parody of the "Mega" Society's name.

The Skeptics Society hosts an annual conference on a topic of their choosing.
At a first glance of the schedule (and please keep in mind I'm one of the few on Prometheus who don't follow this debate closely), the potentially interesting events would include the panel of Chris Mooney and Ronald Bailey, as well as the keynote with John Stossel, Michael Crichton, Adam Savage and James Randi.
As I wrote, I think the new topic would be absolutely perfect for the Skeptics Society's mission (as I understand it) to debunk pseudoscience, and to substitute reason for mysticism.

The composition was awarded first place in the Mars Society's Rouget de Lisle songwriting competition, the purpose of which was to find an official anthem for Mars exploration.

 Response to the Prometheus Society 1998/99 Membership Committee Report
Requiring a score at the 99.9th percentile does little to confirm a score on the Mega27, given that 97% of those with 99.9th percentile scores are not qualified at the Prometheus level.
If we admit people who have near-ceiling scores on the standard tests, as recommended by the MC, we'll get the valedictorians, the people who dot all their i's and j's and cross all their t's and z's, not the abstract thinkers.
I once again call upon members of Prometheus to reject the recommendations of the Membership Committee and take another, and more careful, look at the problem of admission standards.
