While Proof (1991) and Frauds (1993), both starring Weaving, were well regarded at the annual film festival, it was Stephan Elliott's drag extravaganza Priscilla, Queen of the Desert which this year supplied Weaving with all those thrills that come from eruptions of both popular and critical acclaim.
Film is more to do with surrendering." By that, Weaving means surrendering to the will of the director, who is ultimately responsible for putting all these pieces together.
The definition of hard-boiled Australian manliness on film, Hunter is a screen veteran much admired by other actors, and while on the set of Priscilla, Weaving came to appreciate that good film acting demands "so much less structure, playing each scene as it comes".

The 1991 Australian film "Proof" begins with a series of photographs that are sensual shards, pictures that reveal only pieces of a world and convey a desperation that the rest of the film sets out to explore with economy, intelligence and humor.
"Proof," which the Film Society of Lincoln Center is presenting in a single showing tomorrow night at 7:30 at the Walter Reade Theater to commemorate the decade since its release, has the kind of complexity that made the movie difficult to sell even as an art-house presentation.
She structures the film to give this less weight than a more conventional filmmaker might, using flashbacks that float through the scenario and then fly off like snowflakes in the blizzard of moments that pile up through the film.

One may assume that the 35 mm film used had an image size resolution, determined by the average film grain size, of 0.001 cm (0.01 mm or 10 microns), or less (if high resolution film was used the grain size could be as small as about 5 microns).

Russell Crowe, whose international career exploded shortly after Proof (his most recent high-profile role was as one of the leads in L.A. Confidential), plays Andy as a relatively straightforward and innocent young man who finds himself way over his head in the midst of Martin and Celia's twisted relationship.
Proof was released long before Hugo Weaving was a Matrix baddie or an elf king.
It was a gem of a movie then without the benefit of their current star power, and remains one now that it has finally been given star DVD treatment by New Line.

Slavoj Zizek [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
In order to make his proof even plausible, Zizek notes, Kant has to tacitly smuggle the spatiotemporal parameters of embodied earthly existence into the postulated hereafter so that the guilty subject can continue endlessly to struggle against his radically evil nature towards good.
In this way, though, Kant himself has to speak as if he knew what things are like on the other side of death — which is to say, from the impossible, because impossibly neutral, perspective of someone able to impassively see the spectacle of the immortal subject striving guiltily towards the good.
Within this version of the film, as Zizek emphasises, the main character Deckard literally does not know what he is a robot that perceives itself to be human.
