Propanol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If the isomer is unstated, it is more likely to refer to 1-propanol.

Student Abstracts: PNNL - Medical & Health Sciences
The purpose of this study was to determine the metabolic rate constants (Km and Vmax) for the metabolism of propyl acetate to its major metabolites, propanol (1-propanol, CAS 71-23-8) and propionic acid (CAS 79-09-4) respectively, in blood and S-9 fractions prepared from male Sprague-Dawley rats.
The Vmax for the metabolism of propanol to propionic acid is substantially lower than the Vmax for the previous metabolic step.
Propanol is much more slowly metabolized to propionic acid than the metabolism of propyl acetate to propanol.

Propanol   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Alcohols like propanol are a little odd in that they exhibit both polar and nonpolar properties.
Notice that the left side of the propanol model looks very much like the nonpolar ethane molecule on the left.
This end of the propanol molecule is nonpolar.

Propanol has a distinctive smell (sharp, and similar to some anaesthetic gases) which, once learned, should serve as a warning.
Propanol is a (the?) major ingredient in many expensive screen cleaners, but a little neat propanol does as well as most of them, and much more cheaply.
The best method is to apply some to a standard paper tissue, clean the screen with parallel vertical or horizontal wipes, and then polish the residual fine streaks at right angles with a dry tissue.

CRYONICS Propanol Cost   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Because it is less volatile than ethanol, Canadian regulations for propanol handling are also less stringent than for ethanol.
The only catch is that we will still want to mix the propanol with water to reduce flammability.
This will depress the freezing point of propanol to its eutectic point with water, which will be some unknown distance below -126'C. This will have to be checked experimentally.

I notice that there are methanol and ethanol files, but not for propanol.

 Propanol, 2- (EHC 103, 1990)
Using irritation categories based on the number of days required for the effects to disappear, the compound was substantially irritating (clearing within 14 days) at the higher doses and moderately irritating (clearing within 7 days) at the lowest dose [100].
The eye irritancy of 2-propanol was evaluated using Stauffland albino rabbits, each of which received 0.1 ml of undiluted propanol in one eye.
When C57BL/6J or DBA/2J mice were exposed intraperitoneally to a single dose of 2- propanol at 3 dose levels, the former strain showed increased activity in the open field test at 392 mg/kg body weight, no effect on activity at 785 mg/kg body weight, and narcosis at 1570 mg/kg body weight.
