Propellor Boundary Conditions   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Internally, the propellor disk is used to mark regions of cells, as shown in Figure
Eventually, in a time-accurate simulation, it should be possible to even vary the propellor state value around the disk simulating the presence or absence of a propellor blade on the propellor wash itself.
Ultimately, the propellor states should be coupled to the flow with an impellor disk model, as in [79], [80], and [81].

Propellor-driven Aircraft   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Two simulations are used here to show examples of propellors in the flow, one of a traditional private light aircraft, and the second an example of a new generation of propellor-driven aircraft.
The propellor disk was modeled with 3,784 cells (after four adaptation cycles, since the propellor is a forced condition, the adaptation criteria focused naturally on its vicinity).
While the propellor model is useful for modeling both propellors and could be used for modeling helicopter rotors, the concept of embedding boundary conditions within the flow is perhaps the most important point.

A propellor, a helicopter's rotors and a fixed wing are all one and the same thing in that they are shaped to induce low pressure on one side and high pressure on the other due to the airofoil section of their design.
They work, but it is a common misunderstanding, that the rotating cylinder need drive a propellor ------ this is not the force that work with a rotating cylinder sail.

 Sculpture Based on Propellorized Polyhedra
The propellor operator is fundamentally a topological operation—it determines an arrangement of vertices, edges, and faces that it produces.
In this "propello-Archimedean," a propellor consists either of a pentagon and the five surrounding tetragons or a hexagon and the six surrounding tetragons.
The propellor operation and the normalization to midscribed form both preserve the rotational symmetry of the underlying Platonic solid.

Locate the RPM section on the outer disk, hold the disk with the RPM section uppermost, rotate the inner disk until the Propellor diameter in inches is uppermost, align the arrow pointing to the airspeed and thrust windows in the inner disk with the RPM 12(12000).
Note that the speed capability of the Propellor may not be achieved in practice if the model is to big and /or heavy for the size of the motor used.
this is modified by the losses associated with the Propellor and the efficiency, which is a function of the advance ratio J. The advance ratio is a function of the forward velocity of the Propellor and the RPM.

Newton of the Mind - The Propellor of Keely's Airship Described (pdf)
It was not until he had invented his marvelous researching instruments that his true work of evolution began in 1888, which, completed in 1893, has now borne the test of demonstration and given him command of a vibratory circuit for running machinery, both for terrestrial use and for aerial navigation."
Keely's "propellor" is similar to the present day ion drive systems yet very different.
He claimed this propellor would propel his airship at 300 mph - and this is in 1890!

To make the propellor shape, we are removing only the wood on the top right side.
Now turn the block over, and repeat, shaving off the right side only, so the propellor blade is a thin piece of wood, at a pronounced angle to the hole.

The concept of using an air propellor was initially introduced as a joke, but its advantages became apparent as the project progressed.
A water propellor was considered, but the air propellor and Daedalus-like fuselage were kept.
In retrospect, the air propellor turned out to be Decavitator's greatest advantages as well as one of its greatest limitations.

Mike says that on his airplane with his propellor, the resonant frequency for the Brock extension is about 2750 rpm, and that he considers speeds up to 2600 rpm to be safely under the resonant frequency.

 OrionRobots : Propellor
The blades are angled so they push the medium(that is the air or water - both refered to also as fluids in this context) in a direction continuously.
Helicopters use a very specialised propellor in which each individual blade can be rotated and positioned as they rotate.
They take their name from the fact that the force in a Propellor or rotor is Helical - that is spiral like.

If you want to bubbles over the mountain, be sure not to introduce the propellor to soon, so it will not have a chance to grow.
This results in extra points, but the downside is that the propellor is destroyed and cannot be developed.
And the more fully-developed the propellor is when it merges with the whirlwind, the more bonus points you get.

One advantage of propellor traction is that a slippery road surface does not affect propulsion; however, since friction between wheels and road is still required for braking and steering, this might not be very useful.
Note the propellor is now four bladed, possibly to reduce noise and vibration.

A third type, termed touring motorglider, has a conventional layout with a motor and propellor on the front of the aircraft.
In the United Kingdom, where gliding is regulated by the British Gliding Association, pilots of self-sustaining gliders, like those of pure gliders, do not have to be licensed with the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority.
An instructor must provide instruction and sign the logbook of the pilot to authorize the launch method, which may be by airplane towing, ground launch (winches, bungee, auto tow, etc.) or, in the case of a suitable motor glider, by self-launching.

It is important however because it does tell you the gear train in the engine has the proper backlash and the thrust bearing is allowing the crankshaft to float properly.
When you are checking the blades, etc., your body should be squarely in front of the propellor, so, that if any blades start moving, all you do is yank your hands back and you're okay.
The method my CFII reccomends does not cause the propellor to be twisted in it's direction of motion, rather he has me gently twist the blade with one finger to ensure that the prop will not change it's pitch with such a small force as one finger (you don't want a floppy prop).
