GENERAL INSTRUCTION OF THE LITURGY OF THE HOURS
The liturgy of the hours is in turn an excellent preparation for the celebration of the eucharist itself, for it inspires and deepens in a fitting way the dispositions necessary for the fruitful celebration of the eucharist: faith, hope, love, devotion, and the spirit of self-denial.
The office in choir and in common is to be celebrated according to the proper calendar of the diocese, of the religious family, or of the individual churches.
The liturgy of the hours is then not seen as a beautiful memorial of the past demanding intact preservation as an object of admiration; rather it is seen as open to constantly new forms of life and growth and to being the unmistakable sign of a community's vibrant vitality.

ORB: The Medieval Mass and Its Music
The liturgy of the Latin Church favored prayers, readings, and chants whose texts made specific reference to (i.e., were proper to) the liturgical observance, whether a feast commemorating one of the events in Jesus' life or in celebration of a saint's feast day.
The Mass liturgy confirmed by this church council, called to counter the effects of the Reformation, was substantially a ratification of the liturgy handed down from the Middle Ages.
As the subtitle suggests, this volume is intended to serve as a comprehensive introduction to the medieval liturgy as well as to the "Tridentine" revision of the Roman Catholic liturgy and the liturgy of the Church of England.

For the liturgy of the Sacraments and Sacramentals, and for other special celebrations of the liturgical year, suitable melodies should be provided, which can encourage a celebration in a more solemn form, even in the vernacular, depending on the capabilities of individual congregations and in accordance with the norms of the competent authority.

My parish liturgy director makes a big deal over “the active and conscious participation” of the faithful in the liturgy, by which she seems to mean that we should be doing something more than paying attention, singing, and saying the responses as we worship at Mass.
These latter exercises—which “while not belonging to the liturgy in the strict sense, possess nonetheless a particular importance and dignity”—are to be regarded as having a certain connection with the liturgical context, especially when they have been lauded and attested by the magisterium itself, as is the case especially of the Marian rosary (41; cf.

The Byzantine Forum: Question # 3 on New Translation of Liturgy   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
The Liturgy of, say, Saint Basil the Great refers to the priest's (mostly silent) prayers; most of the hymns we sing out loud, and the litanies, are not intrinsically part of that Liturgy.
The Liturgies of Saints Basil and Chrysostom were written before their were antiphons as we know them, and they are used in other rights where they are set in an entirely different context such that we would not recognize them.
So, the Liturgy of Saint John Chysostom has the same number of prayers as the Liturgy of Saint Basil, but each prayer is shorter; since the Ruthenian Metropolia is not abridging the priestly prayers, they are not creating a new Liturgy.

 The Proper Use of Antidoron
When we do not commune at Liturgy, we receive antidoron (an-dee-tho-ron, with a hard "d" and a soft "d," as in "the") at the end of Liturgy (that is, blessed bread which substitutes for the Gifts; thus, antidoron, "instead of the Gifts").
If you are attending the Divine Liturgy, then keep a fast until the service is over (as in any case one should) and you receive your antidoron from the priest.
Before the Divine Liturgy begins there is a service of preparation, the Proskomide, in which the priest prepares the gifts for the Eucharist.
