Proper time -- Facts, Info, and Encyclopedia article   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Proper time is (The continuum of experience in which events pass from the future through the present to the past) time as measured by the (A timepiece that shows the time of day) clock for an observer who is traveling through (Click link for more info and facts about spacetime) spacetime.
The formal definition of proper time involves descrbing the path that a clock, observer, or test particle is taking through spacetime and the (Click link for more info and facts about metric structure) metric structure of that spacetime.
So for the inertial at-rest observer, coordinate time and proper time are once againt found to pass at the same rate, as expected and required for the internal self-consistency of relativity theory.

 Time [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
If physical time, psychological time, and biological time are three different kinds of time, then three answers are required to the question "What is time?" and some commentary is required regarding their relationships, such as whether one is the most fundamental.
Spacetime is four-dimensional and a continuum, with time being a distinguished, one-dimensional sub-space of this continuum.
Proper time along a worldline in 4-d spacetime is the time elapsed by an object having that worldline, as shown on an ideal clock having the same worldline.

Proper Time [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
proper time for an ordinary mechanical clock is recorded by the number of rotations of the hands of the clock.
Proper time can be defined in classical mechanics through cyclic processes that have natural periods – for instance, pendulum clocks are based on counting the number of swings of a pendulum.
Proper time events (marked in blue) are equally spaced with the coordinate time intervals in both cases.

Proper Time   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
We refer to proper time as the time which is measured by an observer which is present at the same location as the events which mark the beginning and the ending of the event.
Time intervals as measured by any other inertial observers are always greater than the proper time (see time dilation).
The proper length (Lo) is the length as measured by an observer in a reference frame in which the object is at rest.

 Proper Time In Circular Orbits
It's common to derive the lapse of proper time in circular orbits by splitting up the problem into separate components, one to account for the velocity effect in accord with special relativity, and another to account for the gravitational effect in accord with general relativity.
In some treatments of special relativity the difference between the elapsed proper times along different paths between two fixed events is attributed to a difference in the locally "felt" accelerations along those paths.
Not surprisingly, the ratio goes to infinity as r drops to 3, because the proper time for a circular orbit of radius 3m is zero.

On the Proper Time for the Admission of Recent Converts to the Full Communion of the Church.
the proper time for the admission of young converts to the communion of the Church of Christ.
From the time of the Reformation, the churches of Germany, Hungary, France, Scotland, and generally the European Reformed and Lutheran churches, have been in the practice of admitting all, (when arrived at suitable age) who had been baptized in infancy, and had afterward passed through a regular course of preparatory catechetical instruction.
The conscience is then peculiarly tender, the memory is remarkably susceptible of truth, and retentive of its impressions, and the heart is disposed to listen with humble docility to the instructions of the word, and to enter with eagerness upon the discharge of every duty enjoined.

Proper velocity and frame-invariant acceleration in SR
We show that proper time & proper velocity, taken as components of a non-coordinate time/velocity pair, allow one to introduce time dilation and frame-invariant acceleration/force 3-vectors in the context of one inertial frame, before subjects involving multiple frames (like Lorentz transforms, length contraction, and frame-dependent simultaneity) need be considered.
Thus proper velocity w is simply the rate at which the coordinates of the traveler change per unit traveler time on a map of the universe (e.g.
Hence we argue that the trend in the pedagogical literature, away from relativistic masses and toward use of proper time and velocity in combination, may be a robust one which provides: (B) deeper insight, as well as (A) more value from lessons first-taught.

Miller's application of the three and a half times (1260 years) was practically the same as that we have just given, but he made the mistake of not starting the 1290 and 1335 periods at the same point.

Thus, it is important to identify the time when the residual-limb volume has stabilized and the volume changes are small enough not to interfere with the prosthetic fitting.
This procedure was performed 10 times for each stocking, and the mean volumes of one and two stockings, respectively, were used as criteria for bad fitting.
In the attempts to define the proper time for definitive prosthesis fitting, all residual-limb volumes represented by a power function were normalized related to day 160 postamputation (see Figure 3).
