Prophet (Star Trek) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the fictional Star Trek universe, the Prophets, also known as Wormhole Aliens, are non-corporeal beings who inhabit the artificially constructed Bajoran wormhole which connects a distant point in the Gamma Quadrant to the Alpha Quadrant, near the planet of Bajor and the space station Deep Space Nine.
At some point in the distant past, some prophets were forcibly expelled from their wormhole home, and chose to reside on Bajor, where they became known as the mythical Pah Wraiths.
The wraiths long for revenge against the other prophets, and often take over the bodies of corporeal beings to reach that end, even going as far as occupying the body of Keiko O'Brien, thus almost forcing her husband, Chief Miles O'Brien, to kill the prophets.

prophet - Hutchinson encyclopedia article about prophet
Prophets whose words and actions are recorded in the Bible include Moses, Samuel, Elijah, Isaiah, and Jeremiah.
The Jewish regard for prophets is shared by Islam, which recognizes the prophets of the Old Testament, John the Baptist, and Jesus.
Kalon the Prophet was already erect, with argent garments and uplifted hands, and the sound of his strangely penetrating voice could be heard all the way down the busy street uttering his solar litany.

Ex Astris Scientia - Religion in Star Trek
Star Trek's takes on religious topics are often critical, and they almost routinely close with a victory of science over faith.
Star Trek frequently shows that there is someone or something indeed, only that this is always a "false god" that would not deserve to be worshipped.
Star Trek itself has discussed spiritual issues without a reference to a god countless times, it is full of spirituality that just pretends to be of profane scientific nature.

The Trek Nation - Prophet Motive
With no new episodes in production, Star Trek is back in the hands of the fans, as it was during the fertile period of the 1970s.
Starring in musical revival at Ford's Theatre, the actor says he is happy to be back onstage and is unsurprised that Trek favors theatre actors.
The Trek Nation and its subsidiary sites are in no way affiliated with Paramount Pictures, Inc. Star Trek ®, in all its various forms, is a trademark of Paramount Pictures.

Star Trek: Mark Two (JBR Mega-rant - 0)
"Space Opera" (which Star Trek isn't exactly; see 0.3) is entitled to simplifying conventions like the prevalence of stardrives, Babel fish, and humanoids with added latex features; but it's nice if these all have rationales lurking somewhere or other in the background.
This is partly testimony to Star Trek's success; but mainly to all those claims of profundity, worthiness and scientific accuracy.
Star Trek: Voyager discards advantage (C), too, which would almost have been a good idea if they'd thrown the bathwater away with the baby - but they've lost the Romulan warbirds while keeping transporter technology.

Chronology Of Written Star Trek Fiction
Star Trek Chronology as a primary reference for so many books now, I'm beginning to grudgingly accept that the older fiction must now be retconned to match the chronology of the new, and not vice-versa.
Star Trek Chronology are given overwhelming preference in the Pocket Timeline, even in circumstances where the dates given in the novels themselves ultimately make more sense.
Star Trek Chronology further complicates matters, as future authors will be obliged to conform to it despite the numerous contradictions with currently published novels.

I agree with most critics that the better Star Trek movies are the even ones, and that the odd ones are not as good.
I do have an extremely trekkie cousin though--she and her husband go to the Star Trek convention in Vegas every year, and she's one of those people who dresses up, she has the little short dress uniform from the original series that she wears.
What I find with Star Trek is that in some of the movies, eg Insurrection and Nemesis, the same devices are used to the point of predictability, as if they were trying to plough the same ground again and again rather than explore things differently or try new ground altogether.

Further it appears to me that for nearly all Star Trek stories, Vulcans can be seen as individuals who strive to emulate the INTP archetype without understanding or accepting the archetypes' incomplete nature.
The Star Trek writers on the other hand seem to have always recognized this imbalance and have used it in a great number of stories that involve Vulcans.

Star Trek Dimension - Star Trek Cartography
Although unfortunately, distances are often conceiled or avoided on Star Trek, there are nevertheless quite a lot of known distances.
With its almost 800 light years distance, the real star Rigel has often been quoted as too far away from Earth to be indeed the central star of the important Star Trek system (mentioned in more than a dozen episodes!).
It's true that the too large distances of many other real stars cause problems too, however, I will accept these discrepancies only if we can be sure that it's indeed the real star (when the name is identical or practically identical, such as a wrong genitive form for the constellation).

I can bet that some fans of Star Trek have only a very limited budget per month, and spend it on a whole DVD collection at once, may be a burden to many.

 Review: Star Trek: Voyager
The story has been a popular one among science-fiction authors over the decades; in fact, Fletcher Pratt wrote a version which was almost a word-for-word updating of the original story, at least to the point at which the military-commander hero realized what was happening and refused to play the story out any further.
As is usual in Star Trek series, there are two focuses for the show the search for new life forms and new civilizations; and the developing and changing relationships within the crew.
The watershed for the last year and a half was the two-part cliffhanger "Scorpion", in which, during passage through Borg space, the Voyager gets involved in a war between the Borg and "species 8472", a terrifyingly versatile and implacable intruder from "fluidic space".

 STARTREK.COM : Article
It has always been thought that the Romulan Star Empire was a radical offshoot of Vulcan civilization, a minority of Vulcans that denied the philosophy of Surak.
Prior to their arrival at Romulus, the Romulans were informed that the Reman world contained life; the neo-conquerors were on Romulus for a few hundred years before they began to subjugate their Reman neighbors, just as they had tried to with the Vulcans back on their original homeworld.
So it is entirely possible, and in fact probable, that the Romulan Star Empire encompasses several "nations" whose histories are as varied and complex as those on Earth.
