| | Chemistry Portfolio - Syllabi - Chem 160B (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30) |
 | | The course can be considered to consist of three important and related areas: bioenergetics, the process by which organisms capture, use and transform energy; metabolic pathways, which can be subdivided into catabolic (degradative, oxidative) and anabolic (synthetic, reductive) pathways; and regulation, the process by which metabolism is controlled. |
 | | Draw, at a minimum, one metabolic pathway for each of the major groups of macromolecules, and describe the "logic" underpinning the series of reactions. |
 | | The group sessions are designed to help you master concepts involving metabolism so that you can apply knowledge gained in lecture to novel problem situations. |
