As used herein, protecting groups defined by R.sub.4 are known to those of ordinary skill in the art and include any known protecting group suitable for protection of the 2', 3' or 5' hydroxyls of ribose and the 3' or 5' hydroxyls of deoxyribose sugars.
This protection step(s) is (are) followed by conversion to the nucleotide-analog phosphoramidite, phosphorothioamidite, phosphonate or O-substituted monophosphate by reaction of the 3'OH of the nucleoside with the appropriate modifying group.
Incorporation of the DMT protecting group at the 5' position of nucleosides is typically accomplished by reaction with DMTCl in the presence of pyridine or dimethylpyridine (Chaudhary & Hernandez, 1979).

 Friends for Life
Protected area managers need to use communication to build support for protected areas, while resolving and clarifying roles, responsibilities and equity in terms of benefits related to the protected area, developing a shared understanding and developing capacity to act.
Where knowledge of the protected area is lacking, communication is used to ensure stakeholders understand the benefits provided by the protected area, in terms of the long-term conservation of biological diversity, the economic values of protected areas (beyond employment), and their potential for sustainable development.
High value is put on the communication skills of protected area champions such as the project staff, particularly the community organizers, local government liaisons, the biologists and the people's organization leaders who are all on the frontline in support of protected areas and biodiversity conservation in general.

CCH Business Owner's Toolkit | Protected groups   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Protected groups, in terms of employment laws, are groups of people that are distinguished by special characteristics such as their race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, age (over 40), disability or veteran status.
These particular groups are protected under federal antidiscrimination law, which mandates that people in one of these protected groups cannot be discriminated against in any facet of employment, including hiring, promotion, training, discipline, pay, and termination.
State laws may protect other groups, such as individuals in different age groups, people who are smokers and individuals with a particular sexual orientation.

Protecting group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Protecting group or protective group is introduced into a molecule by chemical modification of a functional group in order to obtain chemoselectivity in a subsequent chemical reaction.
It will always react with carbonyl groups, and this cannot be discouraged by any means.
Protecting groups are more commonly used in small-scale laboratory work and initial development than in industrial production processes because their use adds additional steps and material costs to the process.

Example: there is a possible equity for protected groups issue at X State U because the average salary of associate professors of English who are Vietnam era veterans is 20% lower than the average salaries of the rest of the associate professors of English.
Notes: CWU is REQUIRED under the provisions of civil rights laws to address equity for protected groups; the failure of an organization to provide equity for protected groups is sometimes referred to as salary bias or salary discrimination.
It is the humble opinion of the author of this lexicon that the language of the code should be changed so that the term equity ONLY refers to equity for protected groups to reduce the possibility of confusion on this issue.

Protected Groups and the adminSDHolder object - msresource.net
This is where the protected groups come in - the ACL on any members of a protected group are reset every 60 minutes.  This reset is made by the PDCe and the template that contains the ACL to reset the protected group members to is the adminSDHolder object.
The reason for protected groups and the adminSDHolder object is so that the aforementioned delegation scenario cannot happen.  It would be a grave security hole if any user with permissions to change group memberships on all user objects in an OU were to be able to modify the administrative users.

Delegated permissions are not available and inheritance is automatically disabled
For users who were previously members of a protected group, the inheritance flag is not automatically reset when the user is removed from a protected group.
However, all members of protected groups inherit permissions from the organizational unit and any parent organizational units if inheritance is enabled at the organizational unit level.
This process protects these accounts from being modified by unauthorized users if the accounts are moved to a container or organizational unit where a malicious user has been delegated administrative credentials to modify user accounts.

Dr. Fritz Muller on Some Difficult Cases of Mimicry, by Alfred Russel Wallace
Examples of this close resemblance of species of different genera of protected groups have now become very numerous, and they often extend to three or more distinct genera, some species of which imitate each other in most parts of tropical America, each changing in a corresponding manner as we pass from one district to another.
The explanation now given, so far as it refers to the various degrees of protection, may be extended to explain those cases in which various groups of Nymphalidæ or other families appear to mimic each other; such as Catagramma, Callithea, and Agrias in one series, and Apatura with Heterochroa in another.
If to this can be added the proof that such groups as Catagramma, which seem to be the objects of mimicry, are partially protected by inedibility, the chief remaining difficulty in the application of the theory of natural selection to all known cases of protective imitation will have been cleared up.

Equity for Protected Groups: Equity for Protected Groups refers to salary differentials between certain federally identified groups of faculty (e.g., Vietnam era veterans, racial minorities, women, disabled) and the general faculty population.
Example: there is a possible equity for protected groups issue at X State U because the average salary of associate professors of English who are Vietnam era veterans is 20 % lower than the average salaries of the rest of the associate professors of English.
Specifically, the code uses the term equity and inequity to refer to a number of the salary issues identified in this lexicon and it provides a mechanism for the faculty senate to identify additional salary issues as equity issues.
