		While "Protection" might not be as good as their first album "Blue lines" and a bit overshadowed by other albums it's far from a bad apple in any way, actually one of my favorites with a distance.
		"Protection" is another classic Massive Attack album that breaks the mold in what trip-hop/dub music is. Not as strong as their debut "Blue Lines" or the phenomenal "Mezzanine", "Protection" still impresses with its sinsiter grooves, nigh-disturbing lyrics and poignant vocals.
		This second album from the pioneer group Massive Attack entitled "Protection" is a very good but also a very uneven album in it's own right but compared to their other stuff, "Protection" is an unfortunate victim to their later two albums "Mezzanine" and "100th Window" in my opinion.

		DJ Mad Professor remixed the album in 1995 under the name No Protection.
		Protection was featured in the top ten of Rolling Stone magazine's 'Coolest Albums of All Time List,' calling it "great music for when you're driving around a city at 4 am," due to the 'chill out' nature of the album.
		This album in particular has a heavy use of string instruments (or at least synthesizers imitating string instruments) compared to other Massive Attack albums, although certain tracks before and after have featured strings, like "Unfinished Sympathy" and "Live with Me".

		Protection was widely considered a disappointing follow-up to Massive Attack's groundbreaking debut, Blue Lines.
		Where their debut bent all of the conventional hip-hop, dub reggae, and soul rules, Protection essentially delivered more of the same.
		Perhaps that's the reason why Mad Professor's remix of the album, No Protection, was welcomed with open arms by both Massive Attack fans and critics.

		The poppiest of the Massive Attack albums suffers none for its apparent desire to showcase the group's murky, dark sound to a wider audience.
		Unfortunately, her solo album 'No Government' is a hit and miss affair, largely a mess of drum and bass with a smattering of good tracks.
		This album was one of the few I have listened to on the listening post at HMV before I bought it (I had only heard the one song, 'Unfinished Sympathy', prior to this album.

		Bristol's Massive Attack released a classic with their first album, Blue Lines, but only those who were paying careful attention noticed; soon, they were overshadowed by the likes of Tricky and Portishead, who were colleagues.
		This album is often derided as the only misstep in the distinguished career of Massive Attack.
		If this album was nothing but an instrumental piece it would recieve 5 stars from me, however, the lyrics and vocals of several of the songs (more directly Karmacoma & Three)brought the albums rating down one star.

	Nms - Imperial Letters of Protection : album review
		Their first album, Woe To Thee O Land Whose King Is A Child was a reaction to the barrage of war reporting, and the over exposure of George W Bush since the Twin Towers collapsed.
		And this album picks up those reins, follows the same vein and sees these politically motivated hip hoppers responding to the continuing disaster that Dubya's government has brought down on the USA - and they do it with such uncontrollable fury, that you can almost hear the flecks of spit and gnashing of teeth.
		The funny thing is, in an album that strives, not least to re-jig the current world order, and usurp America's status as a superpower, NMS have propounded a world view that is utterly America-centric.

		The opening title track is pure excellence, with melancholy keyboards, throbbing acid lines, and fragmented beats perfectly complementing the transcendent vocals of Tracey Thorn (an inspired choice to replace the departed Shara Nelson as their muse).
		Though it's still miles ahead of the growing raft of trip-hop making the rounds in the mid-'90s, Protection is rather a disappointment.

		this is really the first "dance" music album i took seriously, way back when, with its highly sophisticated rhythms, wonderfully evocative use of strings, and the eclectic range of vocals, deployed on the songs, each one as innovative as the next.
		"protection" overdoses on a smug sense of sophistication, no doubt, a mindset that slightly tainted the band, after their spectacular debut.

		This is less a remix album than a collection of new tracks loosely based around the original recordings which comprised the still-excellent Protection album.
		He may well be mad but the remixes on this album are just annoying.All this leads to a dissolusioned and messy album which inevitably grates.
		The weakness with previous albums is that there are just a few tracks on each album that are really good, but with this collaboration with Massive Attack, every track is a small Masterpiece in itself.

		The disc has "Copy Protection" from SunnComn called MediaMax, which on some Windows systems will force the user to install software on their system in order to listen to the music and restrict what they do with the music, for example you cannot make MP3s.
		If SunnComn sounds familiar, they should, these are the folks who were going to sue a Princeton student for 10 million dollars for writing a paper that showed by pressing the shift key while inserting the CD (and of course, pressing the shift key still works on this CD too according to all reports).
		This so called copy protection that record companies are trying to force on users is simply going to push people towards getting the files online without paying for them via file sharing networks, buying a non-Windows system and in general, buy less music.
