 | | Mild proteinuria (< 1 g/day) is typical, but NS can develop in <= 20% of patients who have IgA nephropathy. |
 | | Older age at onset of disease, hypertension, persistent severe proteinuria, absence of recurrent macroscopic hematuria, elevated serum creatinine levels, and advanced glomerular sclerosis or crescent formation and tubulointerstitial disease are unfavorable prognostic findings. |
 | | Throughout the syndrome's course, gross hematuria (rarely) and proteinuria may recur, possibly representing progressive IgA nephropathy or other types of idiopathic renal hematuria, flare-ups of a slowly progressive illness, or unrelated episodes of acute nephritic syndrome. |
