  Pyrargyrite - LoveToKnow 1911
The angles are nearly the same in the two species; the rhombohedral angle rr' being 71° 22' in pyrargyrite and 72° 12' in proustite.
The streak is purplish-red, thus differing markedly from the scarlet streak of proustite and affording a ready means of distinguishing the two minerals.
Dimorphous with pyrargyrite and proustite respectively are the rare monoclinic species pyrostilpnite or fireblende (Ag 3 SbS 3) and xanthoconite (Ag3AsS3): these four minerals thus form an isodimorphous group.

 PROUSTITE (Silver Arsenic Sulfide)
Proustite is one of only an few sulfides that are not metallic or opaque.
Its color is a bright scarlet red to reddish orange and is distinctive.
Proustite is the rarer of the two minerals and is usually found in the same ore veins with pyrargyrite, silver and other silver sulfides.

 Selected Specimens
These specimens clearly show why proustite is one of the species referred to as a "ruby-silver" mineral.
A couple of clusters of larger crystals and loads of smaller red proustites are present on this specimen of rotten galena.
Ruby-red proustite crystals are scattered about this matrix along with some clusters of polybasite crystals.

Bob's Rock Shop: Double Terminated Ruby Red Proustite Floater
Proustite occurs as a late-stage mineral found in hydrothermal veins of low temperature origin with other silver sulfosalts.
Proustite and pyrargyrite are known as ruby silver ores.
Proustite crystals are usually massive and shiny dark red.

 Proustite - LoveToKnow 1911
PROUSTITE, a mineral consisting of silver sulpharsenite, Ag 3 AsS 3, known also as light red silver ore, and an important source of the metal.
It is closely allied to the corresponding sulphantimonite, pyrargyrite, from which it was distinguished by the chemical analyses of J. Proust in 1804, after whom the mineral received its name.

 [No title]
The investigation of ore mineral composition from the Abyz gold-pyrite-copper-zinc deposit has detected silver sulfate salts are constituents of late gold- silver association developed in quartz-carbonate veins crossing sulphite ore.
Among them proustite and detected intermediate variety of proustite-pyrargyrite united under common name "red silver ore" are of interest.
The possibility of isomorphism between As and Sb in the proustite-pyrargyrite is not well studied and previously the mineral composition intermediate was not known.

 Proustite Gallery
Proustite is exceptionally rare for Canada, and for this district in particular.
Massive dark gray nickeline is the matrix for vugs of twinned 2 mm across calcite, upon which, is emplaced, a series of slender, elongated, bright red, acicular, lustrous, gemmy, proustite crystals.
These are considered by most folks to have been the finest proustites for their species, and came out in the late 1800s.

SILVER - LoveToKnow Article on SILVER
This is illustrated by the hexagonal pyrargyrite 3Ag1S~SbzS1, and proustite, 3AgISAs2S1, and the monoclinic pyrostilpnite, isomeric with pyrargyrite, and xanthoconite, isomeric with proustite.
After grinding, the muller is raised and quicksilver added, and the silver up to 81.04% then amalgamated in 4 hours.
