Providence County is a county located in the U.S. state of Rhode Island.
The center of population of Rhode Island is located in Providence County, in the city of Cranston [1].
In the county, the population was spread out with 24.00% under the age of 18, 11.10% from 18 to 24, 29.80% from 25 to 44, 20.50% from 45 to 64, and 14.60% who were 65 years of age or older.

 History of Providence County, Rhode Island - IX
In accordance with the requirements of the Rhode Island charter, a ferryboat was established in 1838 between the India Point station and the terminus of the New York, Providence and Boston railroad, at Hill's wharf, on the other side of the harbor; this was maintained until the removal of the roads to the Union depot.
These were secured, the Providence loan by the first mortgage on the portion of the line in Rhode Island and a second mortgage on the portion in Connecticut, and the Hartford loan by the reverse.
The Providence and Bristol Railroad Company was incorporated by the general assembly of Rhode Island at the October session, 1850, with a capital of $300,000, and in Massachusetts in 1851, with a capital of $2,500,000, which two years later was reduced to $750,000.
