Providence Place - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Providence Place is a modern urban shopping mall in the central part of Providence, Rhode Island, near the Rhode Island State House and railroad station.
Opened in August 20, 1999, though some stores opened from October 1999-early 2000 and Lord Taylor opened Spring 2000, the mall was instrumental into bringing people back to downcity Providence after many fled to the suburbs.
Most of these incidents took place in the first couple of years, and as the security situation in Providence improved at the beginning of the 21st century (sometimes referred to as Providence's "Renaissance"), as well as an increased police presence to ensure safety, violent crime at the mall is no longer a major problem.
